California -- Registering an "Out-of-State" previously titled car

What documentation is absolutely necessary (other than a signed over title) in order to register an "previously owned" out-of-state vehicle under SB100 in California?

Can you register a "previously owned" vehicle purchased from an out-of-state licensed dealer or does the purchase have to be completed through a "private party"?

Any clarification in this area will be much appreciated as I make my final decision on a cobra purchase --

Bill of Sale from the private party or dealer and the current registration is nice to have as well.

If the car has been previously titled, legally, in another state, then all you need is the current title and bill of sale.

You do not need build receipts, or the original MSO, but having them for your records wouldn't hurt.

But, if the title says 1965 roadster, ford, cobra, whatever, it should be registered as a 20xx (year of manufacture) SPCN (special construction vehicle). California has taken the position that the year on the title and registration must be the year of manufacture, not the year of a car that it resembles.
If you wnat more information, do a search on Morgester. He's with the State AG's office and has posted here about this.

Your right Matt, that way California can tax the crap out of the registration by making it a current year car, not the replica year. Mine as a 1965 ford was $24.00 for registration, not a 2007 car.

AZ is great, also no (use tax or sales) tax when you buy from a prvt. party.
