Monterey Cobra Corral

Will be there with KMP201 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. By the way if anybody caught the Car Crazy coverage of the Cobra 50th Anniversary at Pomona that was me and KMP201 that opened the segment and shown rounding the left hander after the bridge. :D

Ron,

Here's the details regarding the corral pass and tickets. It's going to be a Cobra mosh pit. :D

Hope to meet a few of you guys there Friday and Saturday... wear a white carnation so I can identify you all...

car4jim 07-13-2012 11:30 AM

I plan to attend, but would like to get feedback on whether or not it's worth going through the trouble of trailering my Kirkham to the event. The biggest attraction would be to get out of LA AND drive my car. Can anybody offer advice on the benefit or not. Pros, cons. Etc.

If you've locked in a good place to stay and parking is relatively safe, then go for it. Traffic will be heavy during the day, but a nice evening drive on 17 mile drive or through downtown Monterey and Pacific Grove would be fun.

If you get a corral pass, you'll also be able to to crawl around Laguna Seca on a parade lap.

Steve Gallegos 07-13-2012 12:29 PM

I'll be up on Wednesday night through Sunday. Not bringing the Cobra. Where I am staying the car would not be secured.

Jon Miller 07-13-2012 10:48 PM

Guess I picked the wrong year to do the non-op.......:)

I'll be there, the car will have to stay home.

-Jon

P.S. Steve "secured". Really?? isn't that what insurance is for?? :)

radelow 07-16-2012 12:00 AM

Are there any plans for a get together? Would be great to get a bunch of cars together for dinner...

There are many great sports car roads in Monterey County. Aside from Highway 1 south from Carmel, which everyone knows, the one you should try is Carmel Valley Road from 1 to 101. It is 60-70 miles of twists and turns with very little traffic. The only caution is: I don't bring my naked Kirkham to the coast because of the corrosive salt fog; if your car is painted it isn't a problem. Summer is fog season, although so far this year it has been pretty nice.

have fun, Mark

Oh my, I can't imagine not bringing a naked Kirkham to the coast on California highway 1. At CH1, starting into Carmel headed south Maurice and Jamo kept the corrosion away with their monster motors and side pipes pushing out some serious air! And again very soon. Next month already, can't wait!

I should have added "polished" naked. Salt fog is brutal on the finish. Brushed is much more sensible, but lacks the blinding charisma of polished. I have seen a number of the snakes on the coast road south of town over the years....I will try it sometime in October.

Polished KMP cars can be driven too, no exception there either. :3DSMILE: The Kirkham boys SEMA car and Sandwich's polished cars driven 13 hours solid in wacky weather and heat from Provo to Reno for the Cobra Bash, wiped it down, and we put it right in the casino on display. Brett Mills (of this site) drove his even further 14+ hours the prior year from Washington to Reno, including pouring down rain and it was just fine. Painted, scuffed, or polished Kirkham Cobras get driven in all sorts of conditions. Bring it to Monterey, Carmel, and for a nice cruise on CA Highway 1 for sure! This is how we started CH1.

Here they are, driving in around midnight - night time driving too!

Thanks for the prompt, I may give it a try. During my sort out miles I got some spray from coolant overflow on the back of the car and it was very difficult to clean up (hours with metal polish). We live part time in Carmel and I am amazed at how much salt collects on the front of the cars during routine use. The combination of those experiences makes me leave the car in San Carlos. I guess if it goes terribly wrong I can ship it back to Utah for a polish.

Mark...bring it. We'll fix it all up for you in a couple of hours. I'll bring the Scotchbrite pads...you grab some Windex. :p

Naja289 07-21-2012 03:26 PM

Yeah Laguna!

Heading over for sure for the whole weekend...got comp tickets to Quail(!!!)
for Friday and then Sat and Sunday at the track...heading over Sat am from Aptos...Viking Blue 289 FIA...this Hipo motor is running pretty hot these days and I can't seem to get clear on Water Wetter or not...a quick consensus would be great-traffic coming back from the track is normally a nightmare and I hate to crap out in the middle of things...so it's either coolant and distilled water or water wetter and distilled water, right?...let me know if I can jump in the Cobra Parade as you all come thru Aptos!...gonna be good stuff!

Shotgun?

Hi guys!

I'll be flying in Wednesday and leaving Sunday. 1st time to Monterey. It's been on my bucket list for a while, and I couldn't think of a better time to go than the 50th anniversary. Since I'm not bringing mine, who will have an empty seat I can ride shotgun in? Thanks for your help.

John
