We will be there but probably without the car. I'm in the process of painting it and I'm really slow. As of now the car is scattered all over the garage and house. I guess I could stick the seats, windshield and exhaust back on the car and drive it down sans paint.

We have closed the sales of Tickets & Corral Passes through Nor Cal Shelby as of yesterday, Saturday, morning. WE are full! 300 cars, over 165 Cobras with 24 of them original. Many GT350s and 500s and a plethora of Mustangs with a few Tigers.

You can still get tickets from Laguna Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Just an FYI
~Earl

Jamo 07-29-2012 01:31 PM

Thanks for all the hard work, Earl. :)

Just to start some sh!t...I think you outta put the Mustangs on the bump...it's a Cobra year! :p

decooney 07-29-2012 01:57 PM

Last year Orion predicted 300 cars. I was thinking 400, but he was right on. The update on the GT40 count of two looks low; there are more coming for sure. We have three (3) GT40s coming in the WSCG group alone. If lodging was not so expensive in Montery during this week, I bet we'd see a lot more Cobras coming. We had 250 Cobras alone at our peak of the itsy bitsy Cobra Bash.

Hmmm, I wonder if we'll see some scalpers at the gate reselling off Corral "Mustang" tickets to latecomer Cobra owners for a premium

Bring the Naked Lady on, Ray

Maurice

decooney 07-29-2012 03:08 PM

Ray,
Yeah, what Maurice said. Hey, take a scuff pad to the paint and throw a few handfuls of dirt on it and rub it in for that full on aged look. Then take a Sharpee to it with sloppy handwriting right on the hood "original 427 one-owner" car. It will get more attention and respect than most other cars there because its original, raw, and driven since new. It would not be the same without you and the car there if you can pull it off in time. See you there.

Quail??

I just got turned on to 2 tickets to the Quail by a wonderful client and was wondering if there are any specials events for Cobras there...went a few years ago and met Shel(!!) and asked him not to sign my dashboard which cracked him up!..everybody wanted a piece of him that day...it was a great show-pricey but great...any info as to the Friday at Quail would be appreciated

decooney 07-29-2012 03:35 PM

Naja,
Not sure if you noticed Cobra 3170s post earlier in this thread. He may have more details for ya. You could call the quail and ask about entries too. Here is a copy of his previous post about some happenings at the Quail on Friday.

The Quail Run: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, August 17

Quail Run to The Quail Motorsports Gathering. Shelby Cobra competition cars will assemble at 11 a.m. on the paddock road (just before the ticketing/welcome center and across from participant parking on the hill). A CHP escort departs promptly at 11:15 for the drive over Los Laureles Grade into Carmel Valley (approximately 30 miles roundtrip)...

The Quail organizers have decided that having the whole field drive over would take too much room from their paying customers. They have directed that only 20 cars will be allowed in, those cars will be selected by lottery from those still interested in going. Many cars are withdrawing from the Quail run as a protest to this directive.

Well, if they all cancel on The Quail all together, why not do Concorso Italiano instead. Pick 50 cars by CSX serial number split 50/50 between 2000 and 3000 series cars in order up to ~50, to celebrate the 50th anniversary. They could do a short drive in to Monterey to the coast, loop around and stop at Concorso Italiano on the way back since its right there at Laguna Golf. Line 'em up right down the center. That would be too easy. There is a group of us that will be there with Cobras, Daytonas, GT40 replicas in the Concorso non-Italian show on Friday anyhow. Maybe you could throw this hairbrain scheme at them as another option if the other deal falls through? :D

I have as much influence with those in charge as George Bush has with Obama,
maybe less. It sounds like a great idea though, it would surely drive the point home with the Quail organizers.

I've never been to this event so just "where" is the corral this year? Based on Scott's picture, it' infield between turns 4 and 5. Is that where we'll be sitting?

Naja289 07-31-2012 08:57 PM

Between 4 and 5 in the infield...You should be directed in...no seating per there...just grab a piece of fence or bleacher where ever you want...it's a great track!

Lori and I will have our Cobra at Carmel on the Sea, the Quail, and on Saturday at Laguna Seca in the paddock. Plus driving around the area
every day!

rms427 08-01-2012 04:09 PM

Dave,

Do you know the color code on your car? It looks like the same color my car was originally and I have been trying to find it.

Thanks, Ray

dwathencars 08-02-2012 06:44 AM

Ray The 1963/64 color numbers are RM A-1645 "Highlander Green Iridescent" or Dupont DUCO 4287 or Dupont DULUX 181-95609. It's named Highlander Green on Lincolns and Cascade Green on Thunderbirds. CSX2367 is the 289 Cobra that Gotham Ford ordered in green and with no green cobras in the pipeline from AC or in stock, the Shelby factory re-painted a blue cobra with this American paint color. Joe A, the original owner who we acquired it from, told a story about his first drive in his new Cobra, in the rain, when the windshield wipers came loose. The dealer determined that the car had been shipped with the trim loosely bolted back on after the repaint, probably in order to allow a full cure before tightening everything.
Others have told me that Lincoln Highlander Green eventually became Ivy Green on Fords but I have not tried to confirm that. In the sunlight, Highlander green looks darker to me than Ivy Green. Dave

Concorso Italiano - 8/17

The registration for the Concorso Italiano is open right up to the day before the event.

My schedule for that Friday is now open so I'm going to register for the event tonight. Tim (TKB289 / South Bay BACC member) is also going to attend.

Duane - Please send me an email or IM with your itinerary so that Tim and I can meet you and the other NorCal folks at the event and park together.

decooney 08-06-2012 09:58 PM

Hi Doug,

Ask Jamo, my days of super jam packed event schedules and coordination have sort of gone by the wayside to a less formal approach while on vacation. The new approach is, "Hey lets get our tickets and we'll see you there sometime close to when the gates open."

To find us, my car is not Silver any more. Start by looking for the solid dark Blue no stripes ERA 427 and the Black & Yellow (Wasp) Lister COOX car. Chances are you'll find the rest of us close by. We'll have all day on Friday to talk about Saturday. We will find each other at Concorso. Just ask where the non-Italian cars and Cobras are. They will point you in. If you come down on Wed or Thur, chances are we'll cross paths somewhere back and forth on Hwy1 in and out of Monterey. We do a regular cruise loop on Thursday night through Monterey and PG. Among the sea of Cobras, its always easy to spot the Lister. We will see you Fri/Sat for sure.

Got the Bug 08-06-2012 10:40 PM

Sounds good Duane. Look forward to catching up with guys at the Concorso next Friday.

tkb289 08-07-2012 12:57 AM

Duane,

I'll be with Doug at the Concorso ... look forward to meeting you and the other Nor Cal BACC members.

Also look forward to seeing your newly revised solid dark blue, no stripes ERA 427. Keep an eye out for my recently completed solid dark blue, no stripes ERA 289 ;)

- Tim
