Electrical question
Last summer I had a cigarette lighter that I was trying to remove short out and fry a couple relays. I replaced the one that controls the fans, its a manual swithch. I also replaced the switch. Once I replaced it one of the fans will not shut off until I turn the switch on, then the other one turns on and the one that is already on shuts off. I did arch the relay when I replaced it, could I have damaged that relay also? any suggestions?

Important safety tip: Shut off power before removing/installing electrical components!
The problem as you are finding is that a short can cause all sorts of problems. At best the affected component stops working completely. I recommend to ring out (check continuity) of your fan circuit. It sounds lke a ground problem where you are getting stray current backfeeding through one fan. You also should double check your replacement job. There's a good chance you mis-wired it. |

I'd be guessing that the new relay is a 'changeover' type. ie, when energised it connects one of the output pins, when non energised it flicks back to the other output pin. This would explain why they are both doin g the opposite of each other.
Grab another standard relay and try it. |
I believe it is the relay but no parts store around here seems to be able to find it. Anyone have a number for the under dash relay? Blass gave me one but I must have wrote it wrong because no one can find it.

As I mentioned, it's the same relay as your Start Inhibit relay.

fixed, it was the relay, thanks blass and everyon else, Blass the check for the diagram is on the way.

Great, now what's the operational status of the temperature switch on the radiator? If I recall from our phone conversations that was not operational. With the car off and cold, attach the two wires from the radiator switch together, both fans should come on. (BTW: The fans should be pulling air into the engine compartment) Let me know.
