Glad you found how to post Gary.Think that # may be wrong but I can't ID them.
Contact Brent Lykins (B2 Motorsports) or Barry Rabotnick (survival Mtsp) both vendors on here. They can help you. Be patient when waiting for help. |
According to "How to rebuild big block Ford engines" by Steve Christ, these heads are from 1961-63 352 or 390 with a 71.2-74.2cc combustion chamber. They are standard cylinder heads. The chart is on page 55. You would be better off using a set of Edelbrocks prepared by Barry, Brent or Keith. They will perform better on a 427 than the stock heads.

thank-you for replies, gary.

I have a friend in Oklahoma City that took a set of vintage 352 heads (similar to what you have) and made some monster power for his Thunderbolt Clone. However, for a little more money you can have a set of Edelbrocks that don't require two men and a boy to pick them up and they make good HP. I went with the Edelbrocks for several reasons: Weight, temp control, and ease of upgrades.

do you think these heads are costing me a lot of hp? the 427so is pretty much stock.

Bottom line is we've discovered the heads are where the power is!
Of course, they have to be coordinated with cam, gearing, fueling, etc., but IMHO the greatest advancement in our quest for power has been the head development we've seen in the past 20+ years. Cheers! Dugly  |
If they have the original valve seat in them you will have to replace them for use with today's non leaded gas. A local shop quoted me $600 a few years back to do these to a pair of 428 heads. Spend a little more and you can buy aluminum heads. It's a no brainer.

The guys are right about the old heads and imo unless you are trying to stay with completely vintage parts for show or go then it would behouve you to buy a set of aluminium heads bare. Then buy a cam kit of your choice where you can match the valves, springs, lifters, and cam with the heads. This will make your life so much better if you put together a system that has already been designed and works.

He can probably flow test your heads too. Once your heads are built and tested the install is simple and you know you have a matched set that works well with one another. I ran this exact set up in my cobra for years with a nice Quick Time 780 Carb and Performenr RPM intake. Nice little rumpty rump and power when you want it. If gas mileage is important to you .... disregard the above. :) |
