Not a bad little car, just a FI 302 but, hey it starts and runs fine. I hate the wheels and tires. The color is actually not that bad in person. It's got a fuel leak from the tank, gotta find and fix that. Got it for $20K and it's titled as a 65. I think I'll have some AFR heads put on it and someday change out the wheels and tires. Otherwise, it's OK.

I love the wheels and the color, those wheels are fine especially since you can run modern tires with them, nice car.

Looks Good from here Best of luck with it

Welcome here - let me ask a question...what do you with the creeper?

Frank Messina 03-12-2012 04:14 PM

Well you didn't overpay so you've got a lot of working room to make changes. I hope you like it at least a little bit.

Frank

chomama1 03-12-2012 05:20 PM

Yeah, I like it OK. I tried to get under it with the creeper, no way. My neighbor and I are going in together to get a 4 post lift, so at least I can see what is underneath.

chomama1 03-12-2012 05:22 PM

P.S.
I saw one of these on the drag strip in 1965 when I was a teenager. Always wanted one.

You can probably use some drive on ramps in the meantime to get under it. Just watch the underside of the nose when approaching the ramps. You may have to lay a piece of 2x lumber in front for the wheels to step up on when approaching the ramp.

Good looking car. Your wheels look like Cobra R wheels, they're good wheels.

Four post are nice! But you can also get a low profile quick lift jack & use jack stands for a lot less!! I have my BB/AC 2.5' off ground replacing my oil pan gasket with only stands & floor jack. I Picked up a quick lift (steel) jack from Harbor Freight for $130+ & stands for less than $50. The jack pick up profile is only 2.5" & lifts 2 tons almost 30", fast! By the way if you are really interested in some AFR heads, I have a set of AFR 205 Heads I'll let go for $1,200.; shipping (US only) included. There $1,900 new. But you would need to up grade the rest of your engine to match them. They are a serious set of lungs for a sbf. :D

Looks like a Factory Five.

If it is, you can go to their forum and get all kinds of help with the fuel leak, and anything else FFR related.

I've seen a thread over there recently about home made drive up ramps. Once up you can take out the connectors and have plenty of room to get the creeper under there. That'd obviously apply to any car, just change the dimensions.

Congratulations, have fun!

chomama1 03-14-2012 07:00 PM

Yes, it is a factory five, second generation. I'll remember the AFR offer. Today discovered the rear axle is leaking, aftermarket cover probably needs a new gasket. She goes in tomorrow and mechanic can't wait.
By the way, the key for the ignition (I only got one key) is some kind of weird European key blank. It has "NL" stamped on it. I wonder if that is a FF ignition switch? I will probably call them when I get enough questions.

Welcome to the club and well done on your purchase. I think the color is great! Some FIA style wheels would look really nice…

Keep us posted.

I got the fuel leak fixed, turned out it was a torn gasket where the filler tube goes into the tank. Rear end leak, where someone buggered up a bolt on the Trick Flow axle cover, that's fixed too. Optima battery was near dead, got another one, a yellow top, which I found did not fit in the battery tray where the old red top was. Otherwise, no leaks, no problems, runs great, gas mileage like my wife's Honda, just a HO 302 with a small Comp cam, but it still can scare me. I just love it.
