He's thinking about it, but I'm pretty sure he won't make a decision for a few months. I hate when people keep me hanging on...

He's got a couple of offers on the car and is considering selling it rather than deal with the Calif emission thing.

Default AC problems

All is now well with 1995 076. Replaced leaky pinion seal (rear end is from unspecified - not Mustang - 70's or 80's Ford). AC just needed charge. I must have a leaky R134a system since AC was serviced a month ago.

Great cruiser and lots of smiles.

Just purchased no: 038 if anyone is still tracking or compiling this info. It's headed to St. Louis as we speak. 1994, Red/White Stripes, no A/C, toneau and soft top. All original docs including his purchase agreement from the Ford dealer, owners' manual, brochure, and copy of certificate of origin. I assume this is a pretty early production car based on the VIN. Is that correct?

Welcome, BWII. Not much action on thread for a while but Cobraduke is the unofficial Ex historian. He'll know production year, etc.

Why is this car still listed on Ebay if it is on the way to you?

Excal 033 is alive and well right here in Oahu. The present owner may well sell it to his brother, who is also a friend of mine, who lives here. I still see and occasionally drive the car, it's gone, but not far from home and still looks great!

Mike,
The car you are referring to was called the "experimental Cobra" and was built for the owner Jens Geitlinger. It was built complete by Excalibur after production stopped on the other cars. It had IRS and the Cobra engine. It was very nice, and was owned for a time by a neighbor of mine. As I understand it, it now owned by Greg Gensch at AA Auto in Butler WI 414-466-9050 and will be for sale this spring. It is black with a very nice tan interior. The interior is different and fancier than the other cars. Also has a very expensive sound system.

Default 200

Thanks, Doug. I talked with Tom and he explained what he was referring to as the "last" one off the production run (but sold without a VIN and not fully finished). I really appreciate the info on 200. I've been interested in that car and seeing photos and details on it. I'll get in contact with Greg. The part that interests me the most is the IRS.

I'd appreciate you taking a look at the spread sheet list I've compiled on these cars and the parts, specs and other info I've gathered into a word document as well. I'd welcome any additional info or corrections you'd offer. I am making these available to any owners or enthusiasts who ask for them. If you will email me at mduke@blinn.edu I'll forward them by return. I only include owner personal info in the spreadsheet (such as name, address, phone and email) if it has been made public in this site or if given permission. This offer is open to all who take the time to email a request to me. I think I have pretty good info on about 60 cars and partial, possibly duplicated, info on about 20 more. Obviously there is a lot more to do.

Mike

Default Excal 090?

I'm looking to buy an Excal soon and I've found these postings to be incredibly informative, interesting and even entertaining at times.

Anyway, I see an Excal on eBay VIN 1XACA2316SM123090 which, if I read you guys right, is probably Excal # 090?? so about 1995 vintage? I was just wondering if anyone has any info on the history of this particular vehicle. It looks like the current owner is pretty straight up, but I don't think he's owned it for very long....I guess I should check the carfax report, huh!

I'll take any advice anyone wants to offer!

Default 090

Here is what I know about 090. Location New Hampshire as of Dec 06 when offered on ebay and got to $32,900, but did not sell in that auction. The current ebay listing is not the same ebay user name or location as for the prior listing. From the '06 listing: custom two color interior over riders, Shelby three spoke moto-lita wheel and shift lever, Shelby front & rear emblems, dash mounted rear view mirror, two factory side mirrors, white faced gages, silver wheels, head rest seats, black switch levers center of dash, no exhaust heat shields, sun visors, no door speakers, Hella disabler security system, AC switch right side of heater vent controls, lighter right side of dash. It was produced with a VIN right at the transistion from 1995 and '96 (085 is a '95 and 099 is a '96). The owner can tell you by looking at the title or registration. In Dec '06 it was reported to have 5100 miles. I can't explain why the current listing is stating and insisting it has 1300 miles. My guess is that the speedo was replaced in 2006 when the interior was redone and that is the mileage put on it since. 1300 miles is 100 miles a year, not likely for a car that had a custom interior redo just prior to it's apparent sale in 2006. The steering wheel, shifter, gage faces, heat shield removal, factory bumper removal, Shelby badges and dash mounted rear view mirror are most likely later upgrades/changes from the original (most of these are popular with cobra replica owners). I have several photos of it from the ebay posting last time. While they are fewer, they are better quality than the ones in the current listing. From the photos, the only change I see is that the upper intahe has been painted black. This is a rare color combination for these cars. Of the 80 or so I know details on, only three are white, one white, one white w/ red stripes and this one. Hope this helps. If you want copies of the earlier photos, send me an email at mduke@blinn.edu and I'll attach them to my reply. As stated in earlier post, I have some informational documents I can also send if you are interested.

Best wishes on your quest,

Mike

Thanks, Mike. That's a lot of really helpful info. I am curious about the mileage and I'll ask the seller that question, again.

Would really appreciate the additional photo's. The one's on eBay are pretty ordinary photography. I'll send you an email so you can respond.

Thanks, again. Really appreciate the help.

Gas40, can you take some close-up pictures of the JAC and put them into your gallery? What's the VIN? I have something very similar to a CR but doesn't have the extented door cut-outs. Mine was built in Atlanta in 1994, with the VIN starting with ACE and the last two digits ending in "01" and rumor has it it was one of five built by "Atlanta Cobra Enterprises" or "Atlanta Cobra Exchange"???
Look in my gallery to see if your's looks similar.

Default Help!! My top won't stay on!!

Anyone out there in Excalibur Cobraland know where I can find those teeny tiny windshield clips that hold the soft top to the windshield?? Not that I ever put the top on but while we're flying down the road, vibrations shimmy those little buggers off, I only have 2 now. Worst comes to worst I'll just have to get 'em made. Hope it doesn't come to that. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Default Windshield Parts

Supercharged,
Almost all (I believe literally) cobra replicas use the identical windshield, including the frame with the slot for the top studs- same as the originals. These are supposed to be adjusted for top fit then fixed in position by using an allen wrench to tighten them against the slot. I have never heard of a specific source for these studs, but places like Finishline and Cobra Restorers sell the frames and might have these parts separately. Several of the replica kit suppliers (such as Shell Valley) also sell the windshield assemblies separately. If you locate these studs, let us know with a post as I'm sure that others are missing some or have damaged ones.

In Texas, I use my top ocasionally (to make the AC effective when it gets above 85 with humidity and to make the heater work when it gets below 50). I have all my studs and have worked out the mounting pretty well to seal out the elements. Since my first hot rod was an Austin Healy 100 with a Chevy 283, I guess I'm conditioned to accept such crude weather protection. The Healy didn't even have a heater I'm liking all the Excalibur high tech upgrades.

You had asked in another thread in 2007 about specifications of the Excalibur cobra. If you didn't get them or want more info, part applications and other related info/history, email me (PM) or mduke8@gmail.com and I'll send you what I've collected in exchange for more info about yours. Is it still GRUMPY?

Mike

Default Exhaust, of course

Well, I've now read all 33 pages of the posts and I guess the conclusion is that there is no bolt on answer for the header/sidepipes? I'm interested in one if anyone knows of something. If Dennis Scott had one available, I hear he is on an indefinite hiatus??? Anyway, does anyone know of a quick way to "open up" the sidepipes? Is it as simple as removing the plate over the two pipes that are blocked off (from what I gather they're blocked...never explored in mine).

On a side note, I have been working at a VERY slow pace to get a site together as a tribute to the car. More to follow on that in the winter months, my slow season.

Any info on the sidepipes is greatly appreciated. I'm fine with keeping my smog stuff for now, just want a little more sound and power.

thanks,
Alex

Default Color

Ahh, one more question while we're at it. Does anyone have ANY clue what the code or at least name of the red used on the 1994 cars were? I have all my original paperwork, including brochure and can't find anything on the color. I need a small touch up and would like to at least start it off right.

thanks again,
alex

Default keep welding

I checked on flyboy's new headers. I think I will continue welding until 1. Don Scott reappears with a set of CRII headers or 2. I win the lottery.
