Body Stripes
I'm almost done reading the book Go Like Hell and I'm completely captivated by the story. Wish there was more dialog about the Cobras, but that's not what the book is about. If you love racing, especially in the 1950/60's, get this book.
With all that said; I have a question about body stripes. The author mentioned in the closing chapters that the cars (GT40's and Cobra's) were painted different colors to identify at speed, day or night. The body stripes were used for identification as well, but to also show the engineers how the car handled in the turns. How exactly? Did they film the cars on the track and then review the footage during the race? Did they watch them from above? And how would a body stripe show how a car handled in a corner? Body roll, understeer, oversteer? Just curious is all... |
