Soft Top for CSX / Kirkham CSX 4000

I know this has been discussed before (I cannot find the thread) but is anyone aware of a company/place that makes a nice soft top w/ side curtains for a Kirkham-built CSX alloy car?

Thanks

Google "Robbins Top" and you should find it.

Robbins makes the top but you will likely need hardware also, which doesn't come from Robbins.

Stephen, one can only hope that there is a vendor with the correct top bows and hardware IN STOCK!! AVAILABLE NOW!!! with NO WAITING!!! and we certainly hope you locate him.

I can put together the package on those. I have chrome on brass ferrules, roof bows, header bows, overcenter latches, soft top, threaded or self tapping liftadots. I think I have side curtains available, if not I'll make them too. The tops need custom fitting over a roll bar and fitting to the car. I can do that or if you have a person to do that for you I can supply any/all parts.

Another possible alternative is David and Mike Wagner:

Can anyone confirm that side screens will fit on a Kirkham without problems or modification to the car?
I have been told be someone who claims to know everything there is to know about Cobras (!!!) that the ferrals in the doors are in the wrong place and need to be moved, which isn't as simple as it may at first sound.
I'd like to have the option of fitting side screens for longer journeys, but not if I need to start cutting and welding the body and frame.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul it's all a matter of whether the windsheild and ferrules have been correctly located to each other as well as the windsheild being on the correct angle. The side curtains can be adjusted to suit the car if they need to be. It's easier to either modify them or custom build a set of side curtains.

The position of the ferrules is set by the location tubes welded to the door frames and can't easily be changed without cutting and welding. The screen position is also fixed by Kirkham, so I'm assuming all KMS cars are the same.
The comment from the "expert" was that there was something fundamentally wrong with the position of the ferrules that required serious modification.
I'd be interested to hear from any Kirkham owners that have fitted side screens.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi all,

I am just at this stage of considering the hood bows and tops. Are there any photos or links to photos?

Hey Bernie, the Robbins top although very nice, simply would not fit over a rollbar. They give you the piece of material from the back window with the top. I used that piece to make a crescent pocket over the hoop and a pocket over the rear brace. I had to make a set of roof bows with an adjustable hinge point to get them lining up with the seams and the right length. I have put a couple of them on now and they look and work great. If you are doing side curtains also start with fitting them and aligning your windshield to them before fitting the top.

How about the top off a SPF, they incorporate the roll bar don't know how the winshield compares rest should be close.

SPF has their roll bar brace farther forward than KMS or original's do. I think they did that so the top would fit. Hurricane's were the same way. Don't know about windshiled angle.

When I had my SPF it came with a soft top, they also recommended not going over 60 mph with it on, why the hell does anyone want a soft top, and how the hell are you going to keep a cobra under 60 mph. Just drive faster to outrun the waether.
