That'll work.

1 can fix-a-flat
1 tire plug kit
1 air compressor / jumper cable box
1 set sockets
1 set ratchet wrenches
1 set screw drivers
1 1/2" drive extra long reach ratchet, +extension, +5/8" socket (this fits my scissors jack)
1 scissor jack mated to the above ratchet via the socket
1 Digital Multimeter
1 channel locks
1 roll of duct tape (you never know...)

All of these are boxed and strapped down to a removable panel in my "spare tire well" (what spare tire???).

Keep the air compressor/jumper box charged!

I know. Pretty retentive. Just hate thinking, "Damn, if I only had my [insert brilliant tool here]..."

I have a small red box that is packed full of tools, rags and a set of jumpers. I designed a strap down location with velcro ties. Work well. I only have tools that fit the cobra - no extras.

It is a good idea. BTW, if you can put a small metal oiler and hand cleaner - it helps a lot.

Just my $.02 worth.

:D

All good ideas...couple additions might include shop towels and a small thing of waterless hand cleaner.

Sears has a 13" tool bag on sale for $4... a real bargoon.

Personally, I would only use the fix-a-flat in an extreme emergency, like if you get a flat in a not so nice neighborhood in middle of the night. The crap in them is probably a ***** to get off your wheel.

Good idea. I keep an old bedsheet in the trunk of my daily driver in case I get dirty so I don't mess up the seats.

I think the hillbilly tool kit also includes a roll of bailing wire and a Mountain Dew can. The duct tape is an absolute must, it saved Apollo 13!

I carry the Craftsman tool bag similar to the one shown above. You'd be amazed what you can get in to it. I started with the basics: Socket set, some combo wrenches, allens, pliers, wire cutters.

All minor repairs and routine maint are done from that tool bag. That way I know I have the proper tools to do the repair jobs on the road, if need be.

I also carry a second soft bag with some other stuff: WD-40, bug repellant, paper towels, glass cleaner, tire plug kit, and some electrical parts. Check out motorcycle shops for small spray bottles. I only carry about 10-15 paper towels, removed from the roll so they don't take up much space.

DO NOT ever buy cheap tools. Your best and sturdiest tools should be in the trunk, not in the garage. If you break a wrench in the garage, it's an annoyance. If you break a wrench on the back roads, it's a disaster. Cheap tools and parts are too expensive.

Anyone else keep an extra alternator/water pump belt handy, or am I over doing it?

I keep an extra belt as well.

I also stash a few pairs of nitrile gloves in all my vehicles - easier to throw them away later after use than trying to wash the hands.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned a flashlight. I have a tiny rechargeable one in one of my lighter sockets. I also keep one of those small LED lights from Harbor Freight in my glovebox.

Yes a flashlight would be a must have.
Great idea!

I found a great tool kit at Lowes.
Shop Task Force 185-Piece Tool Set at Lowes.com

I has almost everything I need including: Wire crimper with spare terminals. Spark plug sockets, Wire brush, wire ties, alan wrenches.

This not Craftsman quality, but is only going to be carried in my car so it won't see much use.

It was $69 but, I picked it up for $39.

Father's Day is coming up... Sears always has a big sale on tools then.
