RM Auction: 1986 AC MkIV Cobra
Auction: 1986 AC MkIV Cobra
Chassis No. SA9AK3028GA017164 Estimate: $125,000-$175,000 US OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE " According to the original documentation, Mr. Dingman ordered his Brooklands-built Autokraft Cobra via Jack Roush Performance Engineering. His car, chassis number AK 1164, was shipped directly to Roush for replacement of the stock 302 engine with a Ford 351 Windsor engine, which is the same type that was used for MkIVs sold outside the United States. In addition to the estimated 400 horsepower HO V-8, this example is equipped with an 11-inch heavy duty clutch and bell housing, engine accessory drive kit, dual electric cooling fans, motorsport ignition, wing vents, premium sound radio, wind wings, racing-style seat belts, and suspension modifications, with an initial cost of approximately $46,000. Nicely modified MKIV, pricey for one..........
My guess is 75-85k range....... PIA on the passengers leg though. Should have done better job on the install of foward brace. |
Which RM Auction?
I heard that Roush had something to do with the
Mk. IV. Maybe he put together the engine package that could get it legal so it could be sold at US dealers. Does Roush own one himself? I think if I bought one I'd see if McCluskey could convert the dash to an original Cobra look. |
There are many that could correct dash whether S/C, 289 Street or Comp. Why only Mike?
It is already a street dash, it was already modified..%/ hmmmm |
Quote:
Roush did do the insatll on one my first Mk IVs and did several "special" builds for the Ford guys. Mike Kranefus had one as did Bob Negstad. Bob told me "If Jack, Mike and I all rev our cars to 5000 RPM and drop the clutch, the Earth's rotation will change!!!" The EPA/DOT certification was done by Ford, not Roush. I have copies of the first EPA cert that was faxed to Weybridge when I was there generating a celibratory dinner at "Les Alloute" (sp?) in Esher. And why convert the dash? It is NOT a sixties Cobra and never will be, it IS a fine automobile with performance that was fairly remarkable in the 80's. |
So Roush installed a Ford crate motor in the car?
