Alignment
 
I would like to check the alignment of my West Coast Cobra, but I am having a hard time finding a place that has flat drive on ramps, for the most part, the angles of the ramps are too steep and the side pipes will be damaged severely.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

1. Pick a place. Measure the ramp. Buy some lumber and make a couple of temporary ramp extensions. Drop them off at the place. Take your Cobra. Be careful not to spit the temp ramp out with the rear wheels.
2. Position the front wheels as far on to the ramp as possible. Hold the brakes if it might roll while you lift the rear with a rolling floor jack. Have guys push the car on to the alignment ramps until the sidepipes are clear. Lower and remove the floor jack.

I tried that, but due to insurance liability concerns they are reluctanct to do it, and I can understand that, despite that the place I deal with they know me well.

When it was time to lift my body off the dolly and put it on the frame, a half dozen guys from my favorite shop came to my house and helped me. Maybe you're not bringing the right kinds of cookies when you stop by for service.

That's a hell of a lot of cookies to lift 2800lbs LOL. I really don't know what the figures are. I do know that when I brake the car tends to run to the right a bit.

If you are saying that you want to check the alignment because it pulls to the right under braking, your alignment may not be the problem. If this is a relatively new problem, I'd look at the left front brake to see if it is working as well as the right front. If this is a long standing problem, it might be a weak front spring or worn suspension part on the front end.

Check around for an older alignment shop. The one that I use has a pit that the operator walks around in and the floor is compleatly flat. I at least hope there is still some old ones where you are.

I will do all the recommendations. I will check the brakes nd front end components. I think I can go to the Subaru dealership and use their flat lift.
