It seems to me that you could also configure this to add more power while the conventional engine is working too. So, MORE POWER! I just don't know if the added weight would eat up all the advantage.

Add it to the front wheels only and then have an AWD Cobra! It could really be simplified to be charged by regenerative braking only.
