Utah Cobra Club Disbanded
I got an email from the president of the Utah Cobra Club saying, at the annual dinner those present voted to disband the club for liability reasons. Anyone have experience in this area. Are there liabilites and what are the issues.
I am very disappointed. I have just about finished my car and was looking forward to participating in events. I thought things were getting going in Utah, thanks I think mostly to the FF guys. |

Not sure if you guys there Incorporate your clubs. Inc provides limited liability for clubs? I do know there are a few cruising clubs in my area. Maybe a good idea. SMS sent out on cell phones to participants whom then do everything a club does. Meets, cruising, workshops events etc. Worth a go if no one wants to have a formal club set up. Good luck with your car and having fun driving it. I hope you get together with a few other enthusiasts. I |
I sure that they will still operate somewhat like a club, just without all the responcibilities or liabilities of a club. I to am close to getting on the road to ( after many frame and body mods) and also looking forward to participating in some of the drives and get togethers. They seem like a great bunch.....

When we all had our cobras here we formed a group but never made it an official club so we never had any type of issues as we had no planned meetings or anything. It worked well for about 6 years and then everyone sold their Cobras and went on to other things. The World Of Collector Cars even came up and spent one whole day filming us and taking rides in the Cobras and they gave each of us a copy of the tape that they aired on TV. And Kurt Scott who owns Cobra Country came up to one of our Summer get togethers and took some pictures and posted them on his site. He called it Emerson's Bash By The River or something like that. But because we never formed an actual club or had a name we didn't have to get any insurance or permits.

I am thinking there must be 50 or so Cobras in Utah, and I believe there are great advantages to keeping relationships going between owners and builders. I love the cars and am always interested in the creative ways companies and builders build the cars.
I had a conversation a couple of weeks ago with a good friend who builds top end custom cars about "is the hobby beings lost." In the future will there be any car shows anymore? It seems in the last few years we have seen the numbers decline in those attending and showing their cars. In this day where it seems everything is becoming disposable and skills are dying off each year, will this be one of those past societal phenomenon that old men talk about to their grandchildren. |
You should talk with Tony Ripepi. He is the founder of the Bay Area Cobra Club. It has no rules and everybody is the President.
