Fia v 427

I am interested in any performance differences between an FIA v 427.
I realise that this also comes down to engine selections suspension set ups etc however there appear to be a fair few FIAs being built right now.
Are you guys building them because of the look or is there something else that draws u to an FAI over a 427.
Do u notice a difference in a smaller body, would it handle a hill climb course better?
Thanks

Good question ...

In my case I went for the FIA based on the looks, not the performance. With the different Cobra manufacturers, suspension setups & motor builders there are a lot of variables.

Even a mild street build Cobra is quick, I think the choice comes down to personal preference. Based on what's out there, the 427 SC is the most popular by wide margin.

All things being equal, I would bet a small block 289 would do better on a road course and a 427 better on the drag strip ... but on the street what really matters is what you like to look at and drive.

Just my .02

Having owned several 427's (Contemporary, ERA, SPF, FFR, Unique) I wanted something different, the FIA to me is a different breed all together. Sleek lines, swoopy surfaces (not that the 427 does not have them as well, just different), and stands out from the pack of 427's I usually hang out with.Ride quality is about the same, but the small block based weight differences can be felt both on the street and on the track. A far more easy going car that does not have to prove itself to anyone but yourself.

The freeway bridge is the biggest hill we got down here on the border Jim.
All I can do is dream and look at cars like yours over the net. Bloody frustrating

Got a speeding ticket coming off that old bridge a few years back, T Y south Texas. I have had a number of big block cars over the years and all were fire breathing beast. Loved it!! But take one on a long trip and they will ware you out and bet you up. So that is one reason that I went with a CSX 8000 car with a nice HI PRO 289 running 2 /4 br. carbs tied to a 4 speed, just like the one I saw in 65 rolling along in the Hill Country, near Johnson City....
