Door hinge covers

I know I've talked about hinge covers before but ........

At the Cobra reunion at Monterey in August I took this pic of the interior of an original 427 street roadster.

Doese any know where this style of hinge cover is available?

It's differnt than the ones at Cobra Restorers or Acton.

Perhaps Shelby American?

It looks like they put a strap behind the hinge hooks to hold it on with the two screws.

No sense adding them, added weight....
If it doesn't make it faster dont add it.................

I know they're not original, but I like the look. Plus, my left leg appreciates the benefit of covering the hinge. My next project is going to be figuring out how to add a little padding so I can rest my leg against it on longer drives.

That looks suspiciously like a late ERA cover.

What about a sheet metal set with some thin pad over it like the some of the old race cars had. Make it in cardboard first then transfer it to sheet.

gsharapa 11-28-2012 08:06 PM

I sure like mine as I rest my left knee against it.....

Best I could do at a moments notice.

It seems the pic of the Cobra at Monterey was an original CSX, but the hinge covers are ERA.

I like this style because it has a larger area where it covers the door attachment pads.

I've contacted Peter at ERA and I'm awaiting a response.

Check with second Strike they sell hinge pads such as come on Superformance, slso I have a pad that is vel crowed to carpet for resting my right leg against on long drives works well. Had the local canvas guy make it, would post pics, but have never got it to work here. If you want pm me and I will take pics of both!

The cover in gsharapa photo above appears identical to those installed on my CSX4000 car. There is an interior photo on the DenBeste Motorsports.com site that shows they are being installed on CSX6000 Cobras from South Africa......Suggest LV or a distributor.... Cheers

Another picture here with dimensions Door Hinge Covers [427 289 CSX CCX KMP ACE HT] - $79.95 : Acton Custom Enterprises, Custom Metal for Cobras
I'm trying to find a picture of the crude but functional pads the race cars used.
