Not sure what you are asking here but if you want to know what the engine is, Roush stamps the engine build number on the back of the engine. Then you will need to phone Roush and ask them what the build specs of that particular engine number are.
In general, if it has a dual plane intake manifold with a 770 Holley Street Avenger carb, it is an SR. If it has a single plane manifold with a Holley double pumper, it is an R. If you want a great street engine, get the SR. If you want more of a race engine, get the R. But, most importantly, check the oil consumption on the engine you are considering. Several of us have had expensive repairs due to this problem. Roush engines are noted for having looser ring tolerances (as specified in their engine warranty) and can consume significant amounts of oil. If possible, run a leakdown test on the engine in question before you pay for the car. I'm sure most Roush engines are running just fine, but make sure that includes the one you are thinking of buying. kennyhbh,
On Roush's standard builds, they typically put the model number and build number on the vc, unless they're finned (don't remember seeing any info on those). So it might say '427R-116', the 116th build of their small block 427 stroker. Roush does sell aftermarket vc's, so do your due diligence. Also check as jhv48 said. Any paperwork from the SPF dealer (they would more than likely be the Roush dealer too). Installer paperwork? |
The forward end of the heads are stamped with the build number as well. My Roush was put together in 2007 and is 427 -SR is 460. My SPF number is 2608. The Roush numbers don't exactly line up with the SPF number, but it might give you some more info.

Roush Crate Motors
I have a Roush 427SR and the original valve covers should have a serial # on them. They are great motors. They do say Powered by Roush. You can find pics and specs on Roush Performance website.

My Roush 427 SR/TW has the Roush valve covers, but no number stamped onto them. Oil consumption is an issues with many of these engines as I hear, and it was with mine. But I replaced the valves, valve guides and seals, and the problem was totally solved. Since this, I have no complaints about the engine whatsoever. Might want to find out if you have the Twisted Wedge Cam option with that particular engine. I swapped the Holly 770 cfm carb with an 850 Pro fuel double pumper, and it has works great. Good luck on your choice!!!!

All information above is correct, just wanted to add that the only problem I have had is the intake gasket Dennis changed it out and has been great for 17000+ miles and no oil problems. Still don't like the scorpion rockers in the process of changing out! JVH got yours back togather?

My Roush 427 SR/TW came with black powder coated ( with black and silver fins ) valve covers. We have all seen many variations on Roush VC's . 427-924 is permanently engrave into the cover. The original AFR heads were replaced under warranty and the present AFR heads have ROUSH with a serial number engraved. They are ( per Roush ) AFR heads. The steel block is a Dart. I have a friend who's SPF engine has Roush VC on a non-Roush engine. I hope you can paper trace the engine. Is the seller the original owner? Does he have receipts ? Who installed the engine ? Good luck.

Well add about 20% and you have crank hp about 528 looks like you gained good deal. I have been told the SRTW likes a little tuning and gains significant hp.
Good luck from the East Coast B i l l |
Roush supples a very nice metal placard to mount in your engine bay when you return the warranty paper. I hope the previous owner received one for your engine. My SR/TW numbers are 531HP and 524 LB FT.

Now those numbers almost make the $15,000 rebuild worth it. |
Almost.
