Roll the dice...sometimes NY will take the out of state info, sometime they insist on assigning a new VIN. I have had people with both experiences.

If they accept the Texas VIN (they will take the title regardless) expect to be called for an "out of state purchase" inspection at a DMV field offce. They will be officially looking for stolen parts but the reality is they want to see the car and assure that the tax paid was not undervalued, i.e. a reciept for $5000 for a top line SPF etc.

Hi Mark IV, do they use kelly blue book ? or how do they value it?

There is no book for this type of stuff...they may web search or use other means to check value. Call me if you need help

Depends on the manufacturer. Ford was 11 until 1981, Shelby was 7, others could be most any number. The current WMI system requires 17. When NY issues a VIN it is 8 as I recall.

Kenny:
I live in NY and bought my Cobra in California 2 years ago, if your car is title out of state they will take the title and your bill of sale and register your car. If the car is over 25 years built the only requirement is a safety inspection by any inspection station.
Where in NY are you? send me a pm so we can talk further
Lou (basque1) I am in Rockland County about 25 miles north of NYC
