anyone looking to ship a cobra

As a life long cobra enthusiast and devoted fan of clubcobra, i wanted to share a service i used to ship my cobra. I've used Intercity, and Uship and the results have always been great but a bit on the pricey side. I used a service called packandzip on the last sale and I was able to find a nice gentleman who was already passing through my town and was able to transport my cobra from CT to CA for $500. Check it out. Have a happy new year!

Dang, that's a deal. I've paid twice that much just to haul up the East Coast.%/

Wow, that is a deal. I got a quote for $800 from CT to PA. Wound up picking it up myself with the help of a neighbor who had access to a rig.

As a transporter of exotic and classic cars we are more expensive bites give door to door service and liftgate loading in an enclosed trailer. Did you happen to ask about insurance? That sounds too good to be true.

That should read but instead of bites. Darn I-Phone.

I couldn't find anything called "packandzip" under auto shipping, but maybe the OP means:

ZIP SHIP: Auto Transport Services - Home

Uhhhh, are we sure this isn't another cheap knockoff service from China somehow?:JEKYLHYDE

frankym 12-27-2012 04:58 PM

It's called Packandzip.com

the guy that delivered it was a small mom and pop guy with an enclosed rig. He was cutting back from Rhode Island and had one spot in a 2 car enclosed trailer. I think he must have gotten a big fee for the car that he already had, so this was just going to cover lodging expenses going back to CA.

... either that or he just stole your car, and $500 on top of it to boot.

I paid double that two years ago to get my Backdraft from CT to Arkansas. No complaints until now! If you amortize shipping over life of car, it is bargain, though.

I did get a year old Grand Marquis shipped free by Dyer & Dyer Volvo in Atlanta. I bought the car unseen (with 981 miles) over the phone. About two hours after wire transfer went through, I got a call from dealer and he had cars he was already shipping this way. Brand X shipper and not covered. He asked if he could add it on back of trailer. Never met the dealer but it was nice surprise.

Sometimes the toast lands jelly side up and sometimes it doesn't!

Happy and prosperous 2013!

You should always ask about insurance. Suppose something happens like a wreck or a fire and the carrier is not insured guess who is sol. I'm not saying anything bad about a carrier. The minimum cargo insurance is $750,000. With the kind of cars we have that isn't a lot. The boss took the Goldfinger Aston Martin to Seattle for a concours a while back. That was valued at twelve million. I've had multi- million dollar cars on and it gets a little nerve wracking!

I'll second this, too good to be true, had to have been a once in a lifetime deal to fill this other guys trailer.

Bill S.

PS: I get multi car discounts with several of the larger enclosed shippers and learned long ago to not be cheap when it came to transporting my (and my customers) cars.

PSS: I do highly recommend Thomas Sunday, even though he owns a Superformance Cobra and not an ERA :p

347stroker 12-27-2012 06:37 PM

Bill thanks for the recommendation! It was too good a deal to pass up.

I recommended a small shipper I had good luck with to a friend of mine. Luckily he doesn't hold the terrible outcome against me! We tried to do a COD pickup and the temptation of that much cash in hand was too much for the freakin crook.

Question about insurance

Im no expert but when transporting the car, as the seller I always maintain full coverage when I ship a car and not until the car is delivered do I cancel the policy. I wonder if my carrier would cry foul if the car was stolen or totaled while in the hands of the hauler?? Good question, I think my own policy protects and I got them to confirm but until you have to file a claim, you may never know.

Whatever you do DO NOT USE Magic Carpet Transport, I can tell you my horror story fro SFO to NY.
