Legacy plate california

For you guys in the great state of California.......The DMV site has a form for requesting plates from the 50's,60's and 70's with your personalized info. I just sent my check for $50 with my info on a Yellow over black 60's plate.........Get on it!!!! The plates will not look exactly like the originals but they do offer you flexibility.60's plates will not be 3 characters, blank, 3 characters like the originals...........They will be Blank, 3 characters, 3 characters.........if you want 6 characters. They offer 2 through 7 !/2 characters.........Check it out.............If they get 2500 requests by 201X the program goes through..........The state needs $$$$$$ This is a WIN WIN

No matter what you have heard reproduction yellow on black plates are not legal on new cars........CSX, Superformance, ERA, FFR, etc. Check with your local Highway Patrol Inspection Station should you not believe. I have metal yellow over black plates that are identical to the originals........that does not make them legal............my CSX4000 was first registered in 2010..........

So they are not going to stamp CALIFORNIA at the top? Are they going to place a gold cursive California there instead (like on all of the current plates)?!? I also don't like the fact that CA DMV (I mean, the prisons) can't stamp a six digit plate and center it without placing a blank in the front.

Per the DMV site the plates will have CALIFORNIA. the total applications required by 1/1/2015 is 7500...Should be a slam dunk.!!!

you can have clean early plates transferred to your car after you register it with current plates. I've done it.

Only if your car is a vehicle that was manufactured in the 60's or is a replica that's incorrectly registered as 60's vehicle (i.e. the DMV rep doesn't know any better).

So, California gets at least $125,000 of our money to use interest free for two years before they even decide whether or not to produce the plates.

Gotta love the way they operate.

RIP California

God I love California!!

Yup. Got my order in too. Can't wait for my 6 digit black plates for use on my SPCN Cobra. I'll tell you what the 6 "special" digits are once the plates are in my hot little hands. God I love California!! Wouldn't live anywhere else. Only two types of folks. Those that live in California and those that wished they could. Let the hate mail begin!!

As tempting as it is, I'm passing on these. California DMV already has plenty of my $$$$$

CA Legacy Plates

I sent a check to the DMV way back a couple of years ago when they started the program.

Has anyone heard directly from DMV or seen their check cashed yet?

I sent my check in early this year and it was cashed within a month! If yours hasn't been cashed yet, my guess is they never received your order. The USPS gotcha...

You can buy black/yellow replica plates through online sources. I ran them with the "issued" plate # & never had a problem. Did the same with Oregon plates. I've seen plenty of others do it as well. Luckily, Vermont plates have that vintage appeal(no need).

Yes...my check was cashed within 2 weeks of being sent to them last year. They said my current personalized plate (7 letters) was OK for the black plate.
