Coyote 5.0L on Dyno
FYI. If you go with Coyote 5.0L make sure you go on Dyno soon after the motor is installed. New build 10/12/12, only road tested, and ran into a fuel problem, sensor was bad on right side. The only way to identify the problem, was on the Dyno...That is the only way to deal with any issues with the engine..Also make sure you purchase a SCT 3015 vehical programmer..Hope this is helpful to those who want to go Coyote. Once on the Dyno should keep your hood down alot longer than the carb. set up.

I thought I was offering helpful information to those considering a Coyote engine, THE SCT did not pick up the problem, obviously Reg Dodd at Backdraft who built the car needed to put it on the Dyno for 40 miles befor it could pick up the issue..I am far from being an expert, do know a little, however, if I am offering wrong info then I won't contribute to this forum...let those that know all tell it.

Another poster asked about the RWHP to which you replied with the Flywheel rating. Glad to have you on the forum. Simply correcting any misinformation as there are many people interested in this engine setup (and many that already enjoy it). |
Have to apologize, given the wrong info from BDR, after further research and BDR admitting giving me wrong info, the problem was located at the 02 sensors located on the exhaust. In order to get a correct read the sensors needed to be placed between 10 and three o'clock, or moisture could collect and cause sputtering and hesitation in 1st and second. Mine were located at 5 o'clock position and needed to be re-positioned in order to correct the problem...So, you don't need the Dyno, unless you want the read out on power ect., and the SCT should pick up most problems, however in idle the SCT did not pick up any problem with air mixture, it was only under power on the roads did the hesitation and sputtering arise...and that took 10 to 15 miles before it happened. The way the exhaust is positioned makes it difficult to position the sensors..I will give an update as to the performance once the car is returned..Hope this info is helpful to those considering Coyote..Cashburn, it turned out that it wasn't the cable either, rather the position was more critical...Thanks for your in-put, your response made me delve into the problem and under stand the issue better..

Hey Cat, I am glad you are here on CC and I hope to learn a lot more about the 5.0 mod engine sooner than later. A good friend is considering building a coupe and using the 5.0 with a SuperCharger. Believe me I know very little about the computer boxes etc. Definitely old school here with a serious learning curve.
Thanks, Clois |
Glad you are on the road to proper operation. Knew it was related to the O2 sensor, glad they learned the position is important.
