I think BTmakes a standard port MR version but defer to Brent.

See? Not 1966...:)
But Ogas did neglect to mention it's a CAMMER...

I would like to hear Brents comments on this.
Brent, what about hydraulics with beehives- still too heavy for 6300-6500 rpms on the FE?
If you can get your valvetrain to turn 6500 rpms with hydraulics, you can make good HP and have a maintenance free setup. A quality hydraulic lifter can take 150lbs on the seat and 400lbs open. This is easy for a SBF but like brent said FE, hhmmmm... I'm just not familiar with.

Almost any solid roller lifter is going to be pressure fed these days. However, there are different qualities of lifters...

I run hydraulic rollers with FE's and beehive springs. You still can't get the rpms up without extremely light valvetrain, short travel lifters, etc.

My hydraulic roller stuff, no matter what engine, usually gets at least 160-170 lbs seat pressure and 385-425 lbs open pressure. I use Morel lifters.

I recognize those Harbor Freight (or Northern) "T" handled allen wrenches.... I've got the same sets. Those are for shade trees, like myself:LOL:

There are excellent examples today of solid rollers Isky has them with pressure fed bushings that can take spring pressures over a 1000lbs.
For years ran solids in all my hot rodded Harleys and for years adjusted them a lot tighter than reccommended.Once the motor warmed up the sound was music to my ears.Always remember all motors stretch when warm.
Always loved hearing the solid tappet motors even with a little too much clearance.

It's all I could afford after I bought my $800 valve spring tester, my $500 digital torque wrench, and my $500 Mitutoyo bore mic......

Jerry Clayton 03-07-2013 07:44 AM

What kind of digital torque wrench did you get???After buying one from Snapon a few years ago, when the auto crunch/cash fo clunkers and dealerships being shut down, bought 3 more off Ebay as young mechs were giving up wrenching and looking for other work--------

Sure are the thing to use on all these modern? torque to yield once and replace oem fasteners-----

blykins 03-07-2013 07:47 AM

It's a Snap-on. Does lb-ft, in-lb, n-m, plus degrees. Gotta have it for the rods that have a torque-angle spec.

Jerry Clayton 03-07-2013 08:34 AM

Beeps and vibrates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

blykins 03-07-2013 08:36 AM

Yep, mine does.

blykins 03-07-2013 10:11 AM

Whatever you say, Claire.

Jerry Clayton 03-07-2013 10:32 AM

At least we'd have more to talk about than torque & horsepower!!!!!!!!!!

Lifters

I vote Hydraulic.

These cars are supposed to fun cars.
You cant enjoy driving it if you re under the hood adjusting lifters.

I think there's a misconception there....

It's not like you spend all week running the valves so you can drive it on the weekend. On a proper setup, you should have to adjust the valves less times than you change the oil.....change the fuel filter....check belt tension......

All the years I ran solids never once had a concern for running them most of the season. After running them a while and adjusting them a few times you become one with them. Also once they are all seated and run in they stay adjusted a long time.
Heck you could always do what Harley did with their Panhead motors line the inside of the valve covers with felt to muffle the clatter.

On my 6th Cobra and 4 were small blocks with 2 solid rollers and 2 big blocks both solid rollers. My current Cobra is KC 496 FE, Pond aluminum block, 10.7 compression, with solid roller, T&D shaft mounted rockers, single plane intake (cut down 1/2 inch), Quickfuel 850, Edlebrock stage 3 aluminum heads and aluminum flywheel. I love it as it knocks down tork at the low end an moves the tork & HP up in the higher band. Spins like a small block and idles at 900 rpm. It made 681 at the crank. It drives great and of course has the HP if you want it....
