Reflective film on your footboxes?
1 Attachment(s)
My foot-boxes were insulated at the factory with something that resembles Thermo-tec's adhesive backed heat barrier matting which by itself won't keep my feet from roasting. I've decided to add Thermo-tec's Suppressor mat (about 70 mils) which will help with the acoustics and provide a little insulation to the interior of the foot-boxes, but I still think I need a little more protection against the heat. I've seen both silver and gold reflective foil (film) used in areas where radiant heat is a problem on race cars so I'm wondering if it will it cut down on the heat if installed on the exterior of the foot-boxes?
If I decide to go this route, here is a link with three different films I'm considering and my preference would be the silver (less bling) but if it kept my feet cooler, the gold will be fine. Heat Reflective Film at Thermal Protection, Inc. To give you a general idea of where I'm thinking of adding the reflective foil, I put two black rectangles on a pic I pulled from the net. Please, no jokes about the boxes.....I know I'm graphic's challenged. |
Mike,
I used the Thermo Tech and a silver foil in the high heat areas on the Cobra that I used to have and race and it worked great. I also put it in the entire transmission tunnel under the car and on the whole firewall. It not only cut down the heat and noise a great deal, it was easy to clean and look good. Ron ;) |
Hey Mike, I would have someone under the dash and someone else run a light under the hood and look for the gaps. They are the worst things for letting underhood heat into the cockpit. Check especially around the hinges and the fit of the firewall to the body. The L panel at the front of the tunnel and the tunnel needs some screws to pull the parts together and seal up any gaps. I like to put reflective tape across the underside of the joint between them.
