427 block numbers???

aside from the casting date and the block i.d.info, are there any other letters
or numbers (such as a serial no.) on a 68 427 block? thanks gary.

the date code by the oil filter adapter, some had a block casting number some did not. and that's about it to identify it.....

427 in the lifter valley.....um......screw in freeze plugs.....

why? do you have something your not sure of?..... or looking at one?

fjrgary 04-23-2013 06:45 PM

no, i'm quite sure of the motor i have. got a letter from n.y. state wanting to inspect my car for stolen parts. just trying to figure out how they would know if it was or not!

FWB 04-23-2013 07:25 PM

careful they may have GM'itis, GM put vins on blocks, ford did not.

gather up your receipts you have to prove it i guess......what do they do if you can't show a trace for the motor? repossess it?

so you can't buy a large soda and you need to prove the motor isn't stolen..

how do you prove a negative?......

427 Block

As far as I know the 427 blocks cast for aftermarket by Ford use did not or might not have "casting" numbers on them, just the date code casting. I've had two '73 blocks that do not have casting numbers. I don't know what year was the last year for production usage of the 427.

If that is a C5AE-H as it appears to be in the pic, then it should be a 1965 427 side oiler.
