When I registered my car in Florida (after buying it from another state) about ten years ago, a clerk from the tag office went out to verify the VIN matched the out of state title. That was all there was to it. This was in a small town in a very rural county.

Here's a link to the DMV.
Car Registration Florida
I did one a few years back and as Tommy said a staff member verified the mileage and VIN. I had my old registration and new insurance with me. No vehicle inspections in FL so that's not a problem......Don

Did mine in Florida within the last year after moving to the Sunshine State from the Rust Belt. Clerk from the Tax office verified VIN on car with old MI Title and Registration, no issues (get FL Driver's License and insurance first).

Registered a used cobra in 2006 that I bought in the Carolinas .. they did check the vin and that was it. "ooooh that's cute" was the only comment. Registered my new ERA in 2008, just brought the plate I was transferring and the Mfg Cert of origin. Believe for used ones .. they want to check the vin. No issues .. in Florida they register the car "as the year the car replicates" so you virtually automatically qualify for an Antique plate if you want it.
