Hi,
I've been driving my Cobra on progressively longer trips and the wind buffeting at interstate speeds is beating the tar out of me.
Do wind wings help with much with this issue?

They may help a little but a lot of the people are making glass wind buffers that fit their roll bars and they say that really not only cuts down the wind buffeting but also helps with the noise. There are several threads on several sites that shows the ways they have done it. I think Factory Five now offers them for their roll bars.

I removed the wind wings for a while and found the buffeting worse. I reinstalled them.

I modified the shape of my windwings.......see my gallery........these make ahuge difference

Everything is relative.....wind wings and visors made a HUGE difference for me. The larger wind wing may help even more.

You know.......when you put your elbow on the top of the door as you drive.........
Your arm deflects the air........behind you ...the same thing the windwing contours the body....
You can't fold it anymore......
The brackets/ Hinges ...........I believe I bought from FINISHLINE...ini..great quality!!!

Wind wings really help. Adjust the angle to find what works best for you. You'll know it almost immediately if you don't have them turned out enough. Cheers.

Thanks for all the great information. Looks like I'll be buying some hardware from Paula and some plexiglass and start experimenting.

Wind wings work great on my car for wind deflection but why in the world would you deflect the wonderful sound of a 427 big block!

I am led to believe that by also adding a cold air vent into a foot box this will equalise the air pressure and prevent buffeting

It's not the engine sound that deafens you....its the wind..

wind wings help a lot. I'm installing a hard top on a Cobra and had to remove the wind wings. I have driven the car a couple of times with out the wings. BIG differents.

They make a lot of differents on how much wind hits your left ear.

You don't really want to use plexiglas. It scratches very easily. I bought an 4 by 8 sheet of 1/4 inch Lexan MR10 a few years back. MR10 is specialy hardened to withstand scratches. The sheet was enough to made 4 windshields and a bunch of windwings. The windshield I installed on my car still looks perfect after 6 years and probably 50K miles on rally roads. I never touch it with anything but plastic cleaner spray and microfiber cloths. I sold the other three windshields on eBay for $200 each and got back my investment.

Shortly after I installed the windshield, it was hit right in the middle by a rock the size of a fist kicked up by a truck going the other way. I was doing about 70 and the rock hit with the sound of a rifle shot. I expected some damage but only found a 1/4 inch scratch. Great stuff!

I made my windwings about 3 inches wider than standard ones. They make a huge difference with wind buffeting. I also made a rear "windshield" for running in cold weather. This is great up to about 90 mph. Above 90, it tends to flap a make a little niose. It really keeps the cold wind off the back of your neck and ears.
