A Rental Car?
Yes, this is a rental car!
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ps325a5dea.jpg 5.7l Hemi, 5 speed auto, paddle shifter. This was a fun car to drive. Certainly not a Cobra. But plenty of zip, fun to shift, and can easily reach triple digits a lot quicker than you would think. We tried all morning to do some burn outs and power braking (hey, it's not our car!). But the electronic nanny wouldn't let us (Hey! It's not your car!). We found an empty parking lot to try some donuts. At the same time, the two of use spied and reached for a small button low on the dash. "Hey, I wonder what this button does?" Yee haa, we (mostly) turned off the traction control! Now we can let some smoke out of the tires! The two of us laughed like 12 year olds. "We're going to get arrested" "They have to catch us first" We also found out that turning down the traction control also turned down the anti-lock brakes, and makes threshold braking a lot easier. This would be a fun track car. Maybe I'll rent one for a track day. The big block only makes a few more ponies, but costs a LOT more bux. |
On the 2006 Hertz Mustangs the "traction control" button was blocked (you couldn't release it) although it was still on the center console. It was well documented how to pop it out and remove the clip that locked it. Then put it back before you returned the car.

Had a burnt orange Hemi Challenger for a week a couple of months ago during a Gasholes get together down in the Keys. We discovered the traction control button "off" button early on, and took turns spraying gravel and dirt down the long driveway of the rental house, and leaving perfectly good rubber on public roads whenever possible. Only one interaction with a local cop...just a warning because he had owned one (and gotta be nice to them out of town fishermen who bring money to local economoy me thinks).
Assolutely loved the hell out of it. I was looking at a Petty model (something about the ability of going around corners needed some development work) before I got the German version...650i M-power. |
Used to work with a guy who rented cars a lot just to mercifully beat them into the ground. It was fun to watch,he once took a car back with one rear tire bald.

Best off-road vehicle ever were rented Lincoln Towne Cars with full insurance/waivers. Able to leap over median curbs as well as any Baja runner.
