Why don't 12AN wrenches fit 12AN fittings?
OK, this is one of those ridiculous questions, but why don't some 12 AN fittings (Aeroquip) fit 12AN wrenches? %/
The fittings are 12AN and are too small for a 12AN wrench and too big for a 10AN wrench and of course they don't make an 11. I know they make adjustable alloy wrenches, but WTF?

You might check out XRP wrenches. I have a set of the Pro Series double-ended AN wrenches and the 12 fits a 12. Snug fit and you have to wiggle it on, but it fits.

AN wrenches fit the hose ends. The wrenches do not fit the hex on other types of fittings for that hose size. I've never seen a hose end that was not standard AN size.

I have found AN fittings between brands can use different size wrenches when fitting hose. The AN size though should fit the coupling nut, I would guess some better than others. IMO the only benefit to AN wrenches are the different angles that can be used if the wrench is designed in that fashion, otherwise a good quality wrench should work fine and not scratch the finish.

I agree with Victor1, I have had challenges with AN fittings and I used a crap load in my car. I did note that since I have metric and Inch flare-nut wrenchs, I sort of gave up on the nice anodized AN wrenchs.
Don't try to do this with the battery diing on you computer.

I have the XRP set of wrenches, but then bought a set of double-ends from Gorilla Tools and that's all I use now. The angles of the wrenches have been invaluable and I couldn't have done some of the contortionist work without them.:D

Ding, ding. That's the answer. It's dumb that they both aren't the same size, but that must be the answer.

They "staggered" the sizes on the Gorilla wrenches, so you always have 2 wrenches of the same size in hand. Simple but smart and very handy.

Joe's has some nice angles.

the AN nomenclature refers to the tube size it is for. nothing to do with the nut size...for instance a #12 AN is converted to 12/16 or 3/4 tube
a #8 AN is 8/16 or 1/2 tube
the threads are also a standard. a #12 AN usually takes a 7/8 wrench, but it can and does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer

The wrenches are intended to be used on the "B" nut, that is the female nut that forms the connection on the male nipple. They are puposely short to prevent overtorquing the nut.
