I don't know of anybody that actually makes money off of this stupid hobby.

I don't think this hobby would be as much fun if it was anything other than just a hobby.

Do you remember the gapless ring debacle of about 10 years ago, or is it my imagination?

Nobody that built engines that had to warranty them, used them.

Do I remember right that they were little two-piece jobs that were more expensive, supposedly reduced blow-by, but for some reason that I can't remember, resulted in gobs of oil being eaten up. The explanation was unusual, I remember that, but I don't remember what it actually was.

Madmaxx is on record making money hand over fist in this hobby, IIRC.

I talked to the owner and it sounds like it has sold. That was quick....

Good deal. The owner is a member of ClubCobra and posted here about the purchase a while back. It's pretty cool to see him pass on a good deal to the next guy.

A friend of mine buys houses like most of us buy cars. He has a philosophy of "leaving a bit in it for the next guy". Don't try to screw people over, complete the sale quickly and easily at a reasonable price and move on. That way everyone's a winner!

Not two-piece, but the ends were made to overlap. I had them in one of my engines, and burned a quart of oil every 80-90 miles, but the car never smoked. Had to change plugs everytime I put oil in. Needless to say only used that engine one season.

Thanks, Jack. It's a shame they found their way in to that engine in the first place.

I used the Total Seal rings in a air cooled BMW twin motorcycle engine I built for canyon racing back in the early 90s. On the top ring the ends overlapped, the second ring was two piece and installed with the gaps 180* opposed and the oil control ring was of conventional design if I recall correctly. I never experienced any excessive oil consumption issues; that engine saw redline on a regular basis.

Did ya'll know that Bill has his car back? From what I hear, hear he bought it back at a nice discount as well. ;)

ERA Chas 06-15-2013 05:05 PM

Great now tell him to sell it to Knockers.

It sold at auction for $110,000. Good for Bill.
