sidepipe exit: horozontal or turned down?
I'm just at the final stages of sidepipe design, does it make any difference to the sound level if the sidepipe exits are pointed directly out horozontally, or if they are pointed down towards the ground a bit? I dont want to point them down too much as I think it would start to look "off", but I'm willing to turn them down a bit if it really makes a difference in lowering sound level.

I'm not sure about noise/sound levels, however pointing them down will cause rocks/dirt/etc to blow - you won't be very popular in a parking lot. IMHO, straight out horizontal is better.

good point! Although I'm not that popular anyway, setting off everyones alarm.. :)

I have mine pointed slightly up, just enough so that I don't create a dust storm . They look as though they are horizontal, but they are not. I run 3" Chambered with no packing, and have to admit that the sound (noise) can be deafening.

Is this down or horizontal for you? You decide.

If you point them straight out or down a lot the sound bounces right back at you. I say turn them down about 15 degrees for look and sound.

Icompromised, 45 degrees, sounds real good.

A couple years ago I redid my entire exhaust system. Mine are set at 72.5 degrees, somewhere in my notes is a reason this is supposed to be optimum, but can't locate them right now. That is close to Mickmate's 15 degrees and I agree that works well.

Good point that would be 15 degrees from vertical

thanks gang, I will try to catch the fabricator before he finishes: slightly down it will be!

I had mine vertical - changed them to 45' but changed them very very quickly to approx 10' down ( from vertical) the dust / rocks / ... are a much bigger issue than sound... Btw. I now have a possibility to change angle on the end of the pipe via a connection ring (that is hidden behind the sheeld) |
