Battery Location
I'm looking for your opinions. I've seen Cobra's with their batteries either under the hood or in the trunk. Is there a reason for putting the battery in the trunk or is it just from the lack of space up front? Mine is under the hood behind the right wheel. I'm thinking of moving it if necessary but don't really want to unless there is some reason to do so. What do you guys think?

Battery in the trunk cleans up your engine bay, and helps distribute weight in your car. That's about it.

If you run heat and defrost the battery has to go in the trunk. It is also a drag racer trick to help add weight over tire that wants to lift on solid axle car

My car has a step up in the trunk.I made a stainless steel box and put a hole in that step just behind the Diff, placed the box there...battery is out of sight and out of the way...used No.1 guage wire to the starter and made an aluminium cover to hide the hole and battery...I made a recess in the cover so the wingnut does not leave a bump in the carpet...you have to search to find it...works great.

Question for mdross1. Why does the battery have to go in the trunk if I run heat/defrost? Just curious

As my car was intended for occasional track use, I weighed it and found the right rear corner was the lightest. That's where the battery went.

Above all the mentioned reasons, plus, the header heat nicely cooks the battery fluid over time until you have none. Then it's very hard to add fluid and check voltage under the fender. Use 'O' gauge cable from trunk and ground to the bellhousing, not it the trunk.

One more thing you need to know about putting your battery in the trunk, you need to use a glass mat or gel battery or the fumes from a standard battery will corrode everything metalic in your trunk.

We installed an MGB heater box and defrost unit as per a long time Cobra owner explained. It was amazing how well it fit in the very spot the battery normally sits like it was made to be there.
Honestly when building our car all I wanted to see when lifting the hood was motor not to mention cannot imagine having to wrestle a battery in and out of the spot it was to sit in with a big block.
Could be other kit manufactor's placed their batteries in another place besides behind the right front wheel.Cannot imagine where else it could go and look right.
