Motor turns over hard after running!

This only happens once in a while.

The motor turns over hard and the car will barely start after a run to full temp. This will happen sometimes, even if the car has sat for a couple of hours or 10 minutes.

351 approx. 400hp. The cars always runs great, no other problems. Thanks for any ideas. This never happens after the car has sat overnight.

I nearly replaced a starter and put a new battery in .first...similar problems... And its back to perfect
again...

hi insulate the starter motor with a heat shield, you could be suffering heat soak through the wireing, regards Sam

I changed mine and in addition it is well insulated, check your gas lines and their proximity to the engine you might want to insulate them as well.

Make sure that you are not over boiling the gas and emptying the carb bowls when the car is turned off.

Do you have a large ground wire from the starter bolt to the frame or back to the battery? That has fixed hard hot start for quite a few people.

There are a lot of things that can cause this problem. I would start with the cheap and simple things. Check the wire connectors; both at the battery and the two large grounds to the chassis (battery and starter) Clean, tight and paint/corrosion free connections work best. How about the battery? How old is it? Have you had it load tested? How about the charging system. With the car running, you should be at 13.8+V at maybe 2500RPM. What is the voltage on the battery in the morning before you run it after sitting all night? Same as when you parked it the evening before? How old is the gasoline? Winter blend fuel can be a problem as can old fuel/cheap fuel.. Finally, get the car hot and park it and raise the hood. Does that make any difference in the starting behavior?

If you can get to the cables from the battery and starter replace them all with the biggest and best quality cable you can find. Check with your local battery stores. Many of them will make up a set of cables with the appropriate terminals and lengths you'll need. Take the old ones in with you so they can make up the correct length.
Two of our club members have had the same problem and the re-manufactured cables have cured both.
