Is there a thread that discusses install regular seat belts?
The hassle of using the four point harness in my car has gotten old.
I would like to put in regular modern style lap/shoulder belts. Has anyone else done this? |
Roger,
I have never seen it done anywhere around here but I would imagine that with a bit of engineering it could be done. I had the 6 point quick release racing belts on mine and like most of the people around here, when just driving on the highway I just put the shoulder belts back out of sight as I didn't do a lot of highway driving. You might contact Bill Emerson who I think is a member on here and ask him as he has done a lot of strange things to Cobras that people have wanted. He just had a new website built and I can get the URL for you if you would like. Sorry that I can't be more help. Ron :( |
Check with our friends down under and those in Europe. I think some of them had to install that type of belt system to pass registration.

Roger, every Cobra built in Australia needs to have retractable lap/shoulder belts fitted. As such, all manufacturers build it into the chassis from the start so it's a simple bolt-in solution for the builder.
My Arntz needed the new belts fitted, so a local fabricator and CC member welded in some brackets to the existing horizontal tube inside the trunk. Obviously, you need the shoulder belt to go over your "inside" shoulder to get the highest possible mounting point in the Cobra. The belt retractor was fitted down behind the seat, but still within the interior. You may also wish to consider putting the retractor inside the trunk to tidy things up that little bit more. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...eat_belts1.JPG The roll bar wasn't mounted when this pic was taken, so don't pay any attention to the roll bar tube. The seat belt mount is the one welded to the horizontal tube behind it. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...bar_mounts.JPG |
