Spinner retainer safety clips now standard equipment
Vintage Wheels is now including our unique spinner retainer clips as standard equipment on all wheel /adapter/spinner kits and also adapter kits.
The clips are spring stainless steel - a great fail safe device for added security ,spinners should still be tightened with a lead hammer and safety wired. Please note the clips can be installed with or without the adapter end cap in place - see link below 1 x set adapter/spindle safety clips : Vintage Wheels, Hot Rod and Muscle car Hey competition drivers - some organizations are making retainer clips a requirement!! Bob Lacey |
I guess that this is supposed to be better than the safety wires being used now? Is it better with the clips?
|
How do these compare to the Kirkham setup???
|
Hi Mother
the clip is fail safe device -it will prevent your spinner coming off , you should still safety wire . Ford Racing 65 The Kirkham set up is a spring loaded mechanical device that works automatically ,our clips are inserted manually and can be retrofitted to many hub spindles. Bob |
Can you please describe the process for installing these?
|
My guess is you have to drill holes through the threaded hub to install the clip.
|
Yes unless you have Vintage adapters which already have the 1/8 inch holes.
I will we posting a series of photos on our web site in the next few days Bob |
A great and sensible idea, Bob--I'll be ordering a set soon.

installation procedure
Hi All
As promised here is a link to the install procedure with photos Spinner Safety Clip Installation : Vintage Wheels, Hot Rod and Muscle car Hope this helps Bob |
I looked at my wheels last night and the front face of the spinner is almost flush with the top of the hub threads. So I don't think there are enough exposed threads to install these even if I wanted to.
Is a properly installed spinner with safety wire adequate, or do I need to figure out some sort of retaining device, like this or the Kirkham set-up? |
The wire is fine, this is just added safety...
|
I personally like the look of the wire tie and I've never heard of one failing in our application,
what's surprising to me is that there is quite a few other 60s cars jag, ect. that have knockoffs with no wire tie or other safety it all. |
