Sorry Ox but I was an Army pilot most of my life and "GOING DOWN IN FLAMES" is definitely NOT on my to do list. I'll just settle for going out in style thanks. :D

I have been corresponding with a gentleman from Norway that wants to buy my car. There is a bit of a language barrier and I am having trouble with the government requirements to import the car into Norway. Is there anyone out there that has knowledge of the import laws? Or anyone that can point me to a reference for them? Any help would be appreciated.

I've noticed a lot of hot rodders from Norway posting on the H.A.M.B. Here's a thread where a member with the screen name "Leaded" says he's imported a number of cars from the U.S. into Norway. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...=norway&page=2 Might be worth joining up and sending him a PM. Of course the regulations for assembled cars might be different than those for antiques and classics.

Good luck with your sale. I've owned my two Healeys for 36 and 28 years. It will be tough to give them up when it's time.

Thanks Rick I just sent Leaded a PM.

Well the day I have been dreading has finally arrived! :( The "Red Headed Mistress" was loaded on a car hauler this morning and is headed for a port on the East Coast. She has been purchased by a Cobra enthusiast from France. My wife says that the French do know how to take good care of their mistresses so I should be happy. Seriously though the gentleman who bought my car has owned several 289 FIA cars and presently owns a Backdraft, so I think that the car is in good hands. He seems to appreciate the cars history. I truly wish that she could have stayed in the USA but it was not meant to be. She will now start a new chapter in her history in Europe.

I now know how many of you have felt watching your cars go down the road to new owners. Truly a sad day for me.

Congratulations and commiserations!

Sad but needed day in our lives-congrats Dick.
See if the new owner will keep you in touch with the car. Mine does and I'm grateful and helpful when he needs tech help.

Dimis 03-06-2014 03:22 PM

You may have sold the car...

But alas, the memories will remain ;)

Good to hear its going to a good home.

Sorry you had to watch your car go, but it sounds like you received tons of enjoyment from it for several years. Hopefully you can stay connected and share your experience on this forum.

xb-60 03-06-2014 03:32 PM

I can't imagine what that would be like Dick, so commiserations. I've followed the recent story of ERA EXP002; I would say it's had a good life so far, and there's plenty more still to come.
Best wishes,
Glen

Thanks for the kind comments. It is finally sinking in. She is really gone. When I walk into the shop there is an empty spot. Now I will have to live with just the memories. Luckily there are lots of those and I have them well documented. I also know how some of her prior owners felt when I took her to visit them in 2010.

I have really enjoyed my time on this forum and have learned so much about our wonderful cars. Even without a Cobra I'm sure that I will continue to lurk here. I would miss all the spirited discussions of "is it real or not", which brand is best, two roll bars or one, does it have a perky butt or not (not talking about Jamo here), when is a 427 not really a big block, etc, etc. :)

Sorry for your loss, it's an incredible car for sure. What are your replacement options? Looking for a sports car that's easier to get into or something more luxurious? I have a heavily modded 2011 Cadillac CTS-V that is a daily driver and it is awesome. Runs 10.7 in the quarter but you would never know it, when your cruising down the freeway.

lamaluv 03-12-2014 10:47 AM

So far I haven't given a replacement any thought. I'm sure that will change as time passes but for now I am content letting my wife chauffeur me around in her Chrysler 300.

I don't think that I will ever be able to "replace" the Red Headed Mistress but I will always have lots of great memories of the good times we had together.

1795 03-12-2014 02:43 PM

Certain things can never be replaced, they remain fixed in our memories waiting for that dreary day when we need a lift. There will never be another Red Headed Mistress, and that is the way it should be. Just like you can never replace your first kiss, she will always be your mistress. Nothing else will come close. Enjoy the memories.

Jim
