I will do the test that you said to see if the thermostat is in fact stuck and not circulating. Thanks!!

Do not grab the hose, test it as if you were a tub of hot water, otherwise you may win a free trip to an emergency room with scalding type burns.

That's a bit toasty for sure. A lot of us will drill a 3/16" bypass and burping hole in the thermostats and index that to the top. I like the adhesive gaskets you can stick the thermostat in place on the back of the tank flange and it doesn't fall down when your installing it.

Just take it to a good mechanic, one mentioned here preferably, their is a good chance they will find a few other things on the car that need attention also, just to be safe and you will know it is done right...

Great Advice, take it. Been there done that. George

Small update. First time out since discussion. So I filled up the radiator fluid till half way up in the overflow , went for ride- temp was ok and the hoses were hot. After 5 min ride, fuel up. Try to start engine and a loud noise and no start. Try again and tons of white smoke come out of the one exhaust. Smells like antifreeze to add. Take it home immediately, till another noise pops and car shut off. Figured out that the choke in the carb was stuck. I hope that the white smoke had to do with that and not head gasket. Next move is to get in touch with the guy in New Brunswick in which another member had suggested, since he is only 25 min from ny. Frustrated here but appreitiate all the help on this forum. Also, got in touch with shelby Las Vegas for new emblem. Thanks again for that also!!!

Now you need to take it to the mechanic. And don't drive it there. Sounds like a blown head gasket. If it was the carb, white smoke would come out both pipes and wouldn't smell like anti freeze.

Don't start it again! Have it trailered to a mechanic.

Fix your fans. Make your thermostat is ok. Make sure your water pump is pumping. After doing all the standard thi gas it turned out the impeller on my water pump was free wheeli g and might move to a place where water might or might not flow

Yeah what he said above. I'm good at general maintenance but when it comes to working on the cars I break sh:eek:t. Something rusted or decades old I will bust something. I think I'm the only one to find a way to break a fireproof board in chemistry class at Yale.

When you get everything sorted if you wish to go this course you can try this product which was on another thread. There's a link to Jay's blog there too.

Someone that knows this vehicle may solve other issues very quickly.

Good luck.

IMHO, listen to the guys in this thread and take it to someone to shake it out. Since you recently bought it, that is best for piece of mind. You will learn a lot about things you never thought of and gain a lot of knowledge on proper care and feeding of these cars. My 2c
