Exact in Russo Steele
I'm thinking about putting the Exact in Russo Steele next Jan. Any comments? I've never entered a car in an auction.

I heard some real horror stories on R&S.........If I was going to sell through an auction I'd go the Mecum route. You can put a reserve on it and they draw muscle car buyers..........

Russo and Steele is kind of a strange auction, we tried to get in one year in Phoenix and after paying to look at the cars we would have to pay to be bidders to get into the auction. Now this was about 2 years ago so I'm not sure if things have changed. I have bought cars at Mecum and my brother- in-law has sold cars and so far the experience has been good. You just need to make sure at any auction they don't rush your car thru when bidding starts, a little hard to control , but stay on top of it when you car comes up. My vote would be Mecum to sell your car.

Under my name on this forum under Russo and Steele fraud or Google Russo and Steele lawsuits. There are much better auctions. Like Gary said, I really like Mecum.

Ran my superformance through there in Scottsdale a few yrs ago. #1 cobras don't do well historically at Russo and Steele ( except for Csx cars from the 60's and #2 at least for me they out a lot of pressure to lift the reserve when the car was still $20k under my reserve and when I didn't it was rolled off. 90 seconds or less from start to finish on the block and it went over the block 2 hrs late at 1100 at night instead of its 900 time slot.

I've had good experiences from various auction houses as a buyer only. My good friend and fellow collector John Staluppi is always at the R & S shows with his dog in tow. However I have heard a few negatives about R & S but have no first hand experiences as buyer or seller with them.
He always spoke good of them. Funny thing he put his whole collection Cars of Dreams up for sale last December through RM auctions. lol Everything in his place was sold, cars, trains, signs pumps, even the carousel went. Wanted to attend but my buddy Jimmy was attending a state dinner and receiving a Kennedy Honor that weekend as a member of Zeppelin. ALLLLLLl the auctions pressure or ask to remove reserve. |

As a buyer I'd say, yes! Do it! But as a friend, I'd say no way, not any auction house. Your Cobra is too nice and Exact doesn't have a name. You'll get butchered on that block. I haven't seen it lately but I'd put on a regular windshield, billboards and the standard dual pushers. From what I gather, auctions compress prices. The cheaper ones for good money and the more expensive ones go for deals. I don't forsee this as being good for your car. Beware, my friend. |
