Which mechanical roller lifters?
Hi all,
I am looking for new mechanical roller lifter to replace the old ones on my sbf 302. Cam: 288/288 Duration, valve lift 0.586/0.586, solid roller. Which product couldbe fine? Morel, Howards, Comp Cam? Rico |
Can't go wrong with Morel pressure fed lifters...
Incidentally, a lot of companies use them as their own....Howards, Lunati, etc. You can also go with Crower or Isky. |
A lot of guys are running Morel with crazy spring pressures without problems.
Brent, what do you think of the Comp Endure-X lifters for a SBF? |

Isky ez roller lifters
cobra 53 Rico As long as the lifters are pressurized to the NEEDLE bearings this is OK. I have run and do like the Isky EZ solid roller lifters. There are no bearings in the lifter body. These do need a good oiling system. These lifters are not cheap either. Lunati have a pressure system as does Comp cams. I think they get their lifters from the same company and etch their LOGO on them. Dove does this for rocker arms. Any lifter made from Johnson has worked for me. Isky and Jesel have keyed lifters. Bushings need to be installed for the keyways, big bucks. They also have bearings. Any solid lifter should give you a 10-15K milage range with correct valve spring pressure, lash and having the rocker sit centered on the valve stem for the complete opening and closing of it. A good oil and a bottle of Lucas oil suppliment would hurt either. Also check the gear on the distributor every 2,000 miles for wear. Rick L.

Unfortunately, all pressure fed lifters are not from the same genes....
Lunati's lifter is made by Morel. Morel also makes Bullet's lifter, Howards, etc. These companies buy them and laser etch their names on them. The Comp stuff is not Morel, and they don't have the reputation that the other lifters have. The Crower HIPPO lifters are high quality as well as the Isky EZ Roll. The EZ Roll bushed lifters are what I would choose for an engine that is street driven mostly and the customer needs to get thousands and thousands of miles out of a set before rebuild. |
I see the EZ roll version, but I also saw some lifters that have a solid bronze core. It looks like the EZ roll just replace the bearing with a bronze sleeve. Have you ever used the solid bronze core with the black diamond coating? Does the coating make a difference?

Personally run the Isky EZ rolls as well. A friend has had a set in his 632" BB bowtie for over 35k and still going strong.

Well, Morel makes the lifters for Howards, so I'd say those lifters are the exact same lifter.
However, I don't think they are pressure fed. You want a pressure fed pin oiling lifter and you're not going to get a quality lifter for $300-400. You need something like a Morel 5436 or a Crower HIPPO lifter. |
