Powder Coated Black Rims??

Anyone with a blue/white stripe Cobra with rims powder coated black that have pictures to share?? My car has black quick jacks, pipes, soon to be roll bar and am considering purchasing another set of rims powder coated black if I like the look. Love the black rims with some colors but I have not seen this combination on a blue car white stripe.

Can't help on a picture but I remember reading some cautions on this forum about powder coating aluminum rims due to the oven heat. As best I re-call, it's possible to safetly powder coat them but should be by someone who knows what they are doing with aluminum wheels and allowable heat.

I think you should get some nice 20" spinners with neon backlighting, bright pink knock offs and Hello Kitty caps. Would suit your car well!

:p

All black or just the centers?

The entire rim in black. I'm curious if anyone has powder coated spinners and how well they hold up with the use of a spinner tool in lieu of the lead hammer.

Not a great pic, but this was done with black plastic dip and is temporary. It has been on for over a year and is holding up. $8 a can.

Check out Backdrafts web site, they offer the all black look. If your spinners are aluminum, hardcoat anodizing might work well.

Thanks for the pic and info. Will do some research and appreciate any additional pics and advice!!

I also plasti dipped the rims black. Durable but easy to remove. Good way to try out different colors.

Others will espouse how great powdercoating is and "....you'll be fine, I've never had an issue", however unfortunately I know of too many instances where powdercoated cast alloy wheels have failed/cracked. You don't want than in any car, let alone a high performance Cobra.

It's no problem powdercoating a forged wheel. The problem lies in powdercoating a cast wheel.

If your life is only worth $150, then get them powdercoated. Otherwise, suggest you spend the extra and get them professionally painted in 2 pack. Btw, every manufacturer in the world I know of paints cast alloy wheels. Admittedly, pc is cheaper than paint so don't you think the OEM's would have switched to pc if it was a better alternative????

4 coats. And index cards work great to stop overspray on tires. An outdoor job, fumes are strong.
