Few pics of my car at the Pismo Derelicts Saturaday morning car show from their website.

Looks good Greg. Did you take the hood off for the show or are you doing some work on it?
Ron :) |
Thanks Ron. Hood is off being re-finished as I relocated the hood latches to the "correct" location and added Mickmates round latch bases for more originality.
Car sure gets a lot of attention without the hood! Overall I am unhappy with the fit of the hood (outer trimmed shape, curvature and thickness around the edges) but I will live with it for a while longer as I look for alternatives (aluminum or fiberglass). Cheers Greg |
Greg - that looks really nice. Love the Sunbursts.
|
Very nice! Solid red is not very common, and looks SO good. That last picture is fantastic, as the angle really shows off the curves of the car.
|
Looks great, love the red. What kind of seats did you use?
|
Hi guys. Thanks for the comments. My objective was to replicate a 427 Street model and make it as originally looking as possible.
The color: 1965/66 Ford Rangoon Red (one of the color options on the period Cobras). The seats: Wanted something "more" than the original seats. More padding under my butt, more side/lumbar support, and more height to the back. Started with seats I bought at Kragen's (now O'Reilley's), cut the back down lower (was a high back with cutouts for a shoulder harness) and had them recovered in more period correct material. Downside: I now sit a little higher than I'd like and have less thigh room to the steering wheel ( I may go to a 13" wheel), but overall more comfortable that the original shells. And a long story behind the Sunbursts. Cheers Greg |
On the NAF, did that have the Mustang II front suspension and straight axle out back?
|
Car is looking good Greg. probably great to give it some exercise. I'm also on the fence weather to fix the gaps around my hood and trunk, already fixed the gaps around the doors - just to large. Guy at NAF must have figured if a little gap was good a lot is better...

beautiful car - nicely done!

Once again guys, thanks for the comments.
Thor: Yes the front is Mustang II but modified. Tubular upper and lower control arms, coil over suspension, MGB sway bar and I triangulated the upper shock mounts (see pics): http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/00121.JPG One long bar running from top shock mount to top shock mount, and two shorter bars running down at an angle to the frame/crossmember centerline just in front of the lower pulley. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/00610.JPG All bars with rod ends and RH/LH threads for easy adjustment if needed. The rear axle is a Lincoln Versailles detroit locker disc brake 9" with a 21" forward arms at the outer ends going forward to the frame and one 10" link from the top of the pumpkin forward to the upper frame member and of course a panhard bar. Coil overs and a sway bar finish it off. Paul. Yeah, the doors, trunk lid and hood do not fit well. Got the doors semi OK after a lot of work, but not good enough yet. Another day. The trunk is so so. But the hood fit is not good any where. perimeter profile, contour, edge thickness. Badly warped (about 3/8'' up) at the back edge in front of the driver where it curves and goes forward. Don't know what to do yet. Might have to try heat lamping it? Slitting it, bending it, re-glassing and recontouring it? New hood? I might try contacting Dave at FFR and sending him a paper template to see if his MK 4 hood would work. More work. Cheers Greg |

Thanks blown871. I'm going to drive the wheels off it! No trailer or garage queen here.
Yeah. We've got a lot to be thankful for here in Pismo Beach. But I paid my dues. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Last few weeks have been -40 to -50 below zero. Yup, you read that right!!!!! I haven't been back in the winter since I left 26 years ago. Cheers Greg |
