NJ SEMA Bill Action/Support Needed
Another attempt is being made in NJ this year for a new replica registration category to be created in NJ. It's important that residents of NJ who currently own these cars or plan to one day own these cars take a few minutes to contact legislatures for support.
Information is in this link: Street Rod and Custom Vehicle Bill Reintroduced in New Jersey If a rewrite of the current law is not introduced soon the ability to register replicas will continue to get tougher and incredibly complicated. If you already have a car and it is registered in NJ then supporting this effort helps you as well should you plan to sell your car one day. Hope NJ can finally get one through here. |
Someone had a great suggestion that a basic starter email that could be cut and pasted with a little editing might help. Here are two that can be used as a basis.
EXAMPLE A: To Whom it May Concern: As an avid member of the automotive collectors' community I would like to express my support for this pending legislation. Allowing all Owners of restored, customized, and replica type cars the ability to enjoy this sport while adhering to clear and appropriate levels of government oversight and documentation is vital. Preserving dynamic pieces of automotive history shouldn't be made more difficult and expensive than the hobby already is. Allowing compliance with automotive regulations applicable to the year of production is much more reasonable than trying to add the burden and expense of adhering to modern regulations that did not exist at the time of production. Please support Bill A.B. 148 and preserve America's automotive history for future enthusiasts! Respectfully submitted, EXAMPLE B: To Whom it May Concern: As a XXXX year resident of the state of New Jersey and a lifelong automotive enthusiast I would like to voice my support of A.B. 148 for the 2014 session. It is important that we honor America's historic love of the automobile and nurture this appreciation for future generations. As the prices climb on these vehicles and push them into obscurity, the replica vehicle industry is growing to fill this void and allowing enthusiasts like myself to own and display these cars for all to enjoy. Current and future owners of these vehicles will contribute economically to the state of New Jersey directly in the form of tax revenue as well as indirectly through commerce. Owners of these vehicles like myself, typically belong to car clubs that support communities as well through various events including fund raisers each year. The state of New Jersey does not currently have a clear path to registration for these vehicles, while surrounding states already employ specific legislation to properly inspect and register replicas and street rods. This shortfall encourages collectors to sometimes circumvent the system and improperly register these cars or use out of state registrations that further block New Jersey of tax revenue. Economically there are a multitude of companies in this industry that would like to establish business operations in the state that are simply waiting for our laws and procedures to act favorably with their products. These companies will rely on established local businesses to support their operations. I thank you for your time and support of A.B. 148. Respectfully, |
I'm on it...
