Heres my engine build sheet suggestions?
So I finally got the engine build sheet on the car I bought. Take a look and let me know what things I should do to get closer to the 500hp 500tq number.
Thanks http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps1a795bff.jpg |

Your first step in the right direction is heads. I'd go with AFR 205s. 2.05 int 1.60 ex with a 58cc combustion chamber. That'll bump that c/r up. Then I'd call a cam grinder and go from there.

No nitrous for me. Heads and cam should do it.

I happen to have a set of AFR alum. 205/58cc Outlaw Race Heads. Ready to go! Over 2K invested in them. Extra heavy duty springs, the works! AFR valves, 2.080 Intakes, 1.600 Exhaust. Spring pressure 150 lbs. Closed; 450 lbs. Open, etc, etc, etc. I was going to use them for a 408cid 500+HP/500+TQ sbf build; but changed my mind. As I'm now collecting parts for a future FE build. I think they may be just what your looking for: $1,200 bo. Drop me a line if you are interested.

those are pretty good engines with the aftermarket blocks and high volume oil pump. i would install some afr205 heads with the 58cc chamber which will increase compression about a half point, maybe more, make sure to get the hydraulic springs, maybe have to change pushrods for length, but check. could increase rocker ratio if the heads will allow but wouldn't sweat this, the cam is pretty good for the cubic inches, wouldn't be worth the change for the gain imo. would check the advance/retard on the cam, my crate 351 was installed 2 degrees retarded, you can advance up to around 4 depending on what you feel like. the pistons should have the eyebrows for the bigger valves, my 351 did for the afr185's i installed but the intake valves on these are slightly smaller.
after i got all that sorted out i'd install a lightweight flywheel clutch, the as issued on mine was 40+ lbs., i installed a 17 lb'er and there is quite a bit of difference on perceived hp. depends on what you want to do, drag racing i wouldn't do this. buy those heads above and a clutch/flywheel and you'd be out for around $2k, pretty good. |
I think all this snow is getting to me , but here goes. If that just said "GM performance block" at the top of that sheet then you would really have something! That should get thing moving, Just having fun in these snowy winter blues.

Just wondering, but how is the car going to be raced.
|
Majority of street driving, couple times a year to the road course and drag strip.
|
AFR heads would be a nice addition

If the engine isn't using or burning oil, doesn't leak and otherwise operates flawlessly, then I wouldn't touch it. Just drive and enjoy it.
Then when you have the time and money, I'd have someone build you a 2nd engine top-to-bottom (408, 427, etc.), then sell the current engine as a flawless running setup. That's what I would do. |

Good advice, I am really going to try to do that!
:D |
Thats kinda what I was hinting at.... if you have a great driver that doesn't give you grief.. man, what a great thing... Not saying that getting that extra 50 or 75 would cause you problems, most likely it won't.. But for street use... the hp you have in a very light weight car sure seems enought to me. But as usual, I could be wrong.
Check the power to weight of what you have vs. a Cup car, vs. a Indy car. |
Ive been around race cars for over 45 years, concentrate on suspension, tire pressures and handling in those visits to the road course & strip, lots of folk spend mega bucks on killer engines when all they really need is some careful suspension developement...too much power just breaks stuff...sooner!:)... and nothing will feel better than the day you drive around the outside of the other guy with one of those killer engines..
