Header wrap??
Has anyone used header wrap to reduce temps under the hood? If so any recommendations such as type, width (1" or 2") and length required would be greatly appreciated.....

I used 2" wrap, the kind with volcanic rock in it. One package barely covered the FFR 4x4 headers, which extend almost to the body panel.
I think it works. My firewall and floor pans are well insulated. But on a hot day on the street I think the foot box is cooler. But I can't prove it.

On my old NW Exotics/LA Exotics/B&B Cobra, I wrapped the headers and it did help with the heat radiating into the footboxes. I don't remember the brand of wrap, but it was about 2" wide. The footboxes on the SPF are a lot cooler in the summer compared to the old Cobra.

Tried the 2" it looked terrible on the tight bends, the 1" looks really nice. Four pipes of the custom headers goes under the oil pan and it does work thankfully. After pipes are wrapped sprayed them with waterproofing.

Thanks for the responses. My purpose of the header wrap is to reduce the heat under the hood. The foot boxes have never been a concern.

I had mine ceramic coated inside and out by jet-hot, headers all the way out the back, no more heat problems.

I had posted a few months ago a thread on sidepipe wraps that also had some feedback on header wraps plus photos of a header. There were concerns of deteriation which I can believe due to how much additional heat the headers are forced to retain which results in accelerated deteriation. But it does work. After a full day of driving, shut the engine off, I can put my hand on the wraped sidepipe and leave it there indefinitely. Last, DEI make a titanium wrap that does not require silicon spray (stinks). Their black and white wraps do still require though.

Speaking from experience the wrap does work in keeping the heat from radiating out. My son was racing karts a few yrs back and being that the pipe was right by his shoulder it would burn his shoulder on a long race even without touching it. I wrapped the pipe and that cured it. He sometimes would even rest his arm on the pipe during a yellow after it was wrapped.

My headers were also Jet Hot coated inside and out they were cooking the oil in pan. Wrapping them stopped that.

I appreciate the responses. I'm going to purchase the type made from the volcanic rock. I need to to a look at the bends and may use 1" for the individual tubes and 2" where the tubes join together. 50' of each ought to be enough I hope!!
