Someone was looking down on me!

Well I just got my Cobra yesterday and put it on the road today. Before I did anything I wanted to change the oil. It has a 7Qt pan, Oil cooler and 3Qt Accusump. The dip stick was like 2 inches above the full mark , but someone put a notch in the dipstick and that is where the oil was up to. I assume that is where the oil should be because it was a stock looking dipstick. Well after doing the whole process of draining the pan and dumping the accusump I proceeded to do the fill process. Pulling the dipstick in and out. The last time I pulled it out I wiped it off and THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. The tip broke right off where they notched. Holy crap! I'm still shaking. Just sharing my 2nd day as a Cobra owner...:D

That was lucky - although it probably would have just laid in the bottom of the pan until someone the pan and wondered what's this?? Enjoy your car.

Luck is on your side. Given how these cars are adapted over time by owners, it pays to never assume. My car was a little low on oil and it was at the mark that would typically be a quart low on a typical dip stick. It has a Canton oil pan with 8.5 quart capacity with the oil cooler. So, I put a quart of oil in and it went way above the top mark. It appears that for this dip stick, the amount of oil that is required to fill between the two marks is about 1/2 quart of oil.
We should never assume anything with our cars and expect that standard does not apply. Go through the rest of the car carefully.

I was told it holds 11qts? 7 pan, 3qt Accusump plus lines and cooler. Today I drained the pan, turned on the Accusump and drained, Removed the filter. I then filled a filter and turned off the accusump. I filled up 7Qts then ran the car for 3-4min. Checked oil and added another 2. The oil level is now where it was before I started.???? I only have 9qts in it though.. What I think I'm going to do is drive the car so I can make sure the lines and filter are full. Call Canton and ask how much should be in the pan only. Then drain the pan only and refill with that amount of oil. Mark a NEW dipstick and hope that is where it should be.
