side pipe guard
I have a WCC and looking to install sidepipe guards.
A sponsor vendor has these: Heat Shields, Ceramic Any comments? Tried various searches to see if it was discussed before but no matches. Hmm....maybe I should have tried "heatshield" ? |

Dirkdaddy: I have used those shields from Finish Line for three years now. They look great (I do a lot of car shows). It only takes "once" touching a hot sidepipe, even with jeans on, to make you see their value.
The only problem I have had is "breaking" the Barrell nut clamp about three times. My car sits pretty low & going over some "angles", catches the left front clamp. They also sell replacement clamps, but they aren't cheap. Bottom line: I like them and the "bling effect" I get at car shows is perfect! |

Shortly after buying my ERA, I did the following, as planned. I wrapped the muffler section of the sidepipes with fiberglass heat wrap( bought on Amazon) then mounted the ceramic covers from Finishline over the wrapped mufflers. They look fine, neat and clean. After a long drive, the covers are warm to the touch and definitely safe for entering and exiting. The "Boss" appreciated the addition. |
THanks for input folks. I found it dangerous to get in and out, even knowing they were there, so I think its totally worth it. Yes, I'm new to the WCC community group, its a little slow there, but posted. We just got the rear end fixed yesterday but have not gotten it on the road yet. Need plates next.

Why couldn't you have an alloy plate that is hinged below the door off the step so that it flopped down when the door opens, protecting legs as they pass over. You would see it inside the door tho when closed.

Its an expensive option, but different sidepipe designs are not nearly as hot a some. I re-did mine with 3" core and a 4 1/2" body with stainless specialties, and that extra insulation makes a ton of difference. Its still hot, don't get me wrong, but I don't think burning hot.

You can also try pat@koolmat.com. She makes Cobra sidepipe heat shields too. She used my Cobra for some pictures when she was developing the shields a few years ago.
