I'm kinda curious too.

I haven't voted, but with only 42 respondents thus far, and tens of thousands of Cobras on the road, a) will this give you a representative sampling and b) what extrapolations and/or inferences will or can you make from the results?

Seeing how 289's and 427's weren't broken out it's not going to tell us much. Throw in Fords and Chevys and we ain't going to know squat! Aside from the 427 BB/SB split I would have liked to have seen how many 289's were running with BB, I know they are out there

RodKnock 05-19-2014 01:36 PM

Every brand will be different.

As an example, if you look through the SAAC Registry, most 427 Shelby Continuation and 427 Kirkham Cobras are built with BBF's. Most ERA's appear to be built with BBF's. Most FFR's, SPF's and BDR's are built with SBF's.

But what does that even tell you?

RodKnock 05-19-2014 01:38 PM

And the same holds true for the 289 Shelby Continuation and 289 Kirkham Cobra's. I haven't checked the SAAC Registry recently, but I would bet that it is extremely rare that a BBF was installed in a 289 Shelby or Kirkham. I could check that tonight, but what does that tell you?

It tells you CSX, Kirkham, and ERA owners care about what's under the hood. Everybody else just throws in whatever they happen to have handy.

...or what they can afford ;)

What you HAVE under your hood, might not be exactly what you WANT.
The poll is asking what you HAVE.
So I envisage a 1:4 split towards the SBF.
It's just "easier" and cheaper to opt for a SBF. IMHO.

Murky781 05-19-2014 02:27 PM

Easy one for me to answer. One of each. love both.

AL427SBF 05-19-2014 02:39 PM

More categories required if you want a census type breakdown of motors in cobra replicas. A couple below may be "0" but the option exists so you have to include it.

Cobra Model: 289, Motor: SBF
Cobra Model: 289, Motor: SBC
Cobra Model: 289, Motor: BBF
Cobra Model: 289, Motor: BBC
Cobra Model: 427, Motor: SBF
Cobra Model: 427, Motor: SBC
Cobra Model: 427, Motor: BBF
Cobra Model: 427, Motor: BBC

Should catch 99% of the hobby, add to it if you see a hole.

I'm with Murky 781, I have one of each and love 'em both.

rodneym 05-19-2014 03:14 PM

Not sure if we'll ever get the info we want (like we need information to get on each others' nerves ) from this poll.
Buddyg's question was simply "what you got?"
The ratio of BB's is too high.

buddyg 05-19-2014 03:22 PM

I was told by Jamo I could not do the breakdown between Ford and Chevy it was included in the poll of mine he closed. I didn't think about the 289 because I figured the majority of them had small blocks.

x3. :)

And to further confuse the issue, the SB is in the track car and the BB is in the street car. :JEKYLHYDE

He's running the poll the way I asked him too. More than two choices always tends to end up with us getting a bunch of damn messages asking us to change the person's vote cuz they got mixed up. Looking at the average age poll, it should be evident that the deaf old timers that drive Cobras are also losing some mental capacity...like standing in front of the urinal and trying to remember if you zip up or down to start going. This is for my sanity.

After this poll peters out, Evan gets to run his to narrow down some answer...then somebody else can do one, etc.

If nothing else, it'll keep folks busy.

AL427SBF 05-19-2014 03:49 PM

Fair enough Jamo :)

Jamo 05-19-2014 03:54 PM

gracias senior

ItBites 05-19-2014 03:55 PM

I feel disenfranchised because there was no category for 'really big block'. I'll therefore start a poll next, after Evan polls for how many care what SAAC says. :P

Jamo 05-19-2014 03:59 PM

Well why the hell not...better than all of those pollsters calling and asking how the hell I feel about some republican in one of those useless states east of the Rockies.

*13* 05-19-2014 04:27 PM

#1, why do you have to ask someone if you can post something inquisitive, on a public forum?
#2, what would this poll do, other than divide those who have spent the money for a BB vs those who haven't or couldn't?

Seems like a recipe for a class war fire.
