Wanted: used convertible top
Hi all. I am looking for a used convertible top. Condition does not have to be that good, although I would like it rip free. Backwindow condition not of concern.
I'd like to use it to make a bikini top. My car is a street version with no roll bars so I am conceptualizing using only the top panel of the convertible top. The bikini top would attach at the window as normal and I would velco/button the rear of the bikini top to the stock convertible top bow and maybe use some kind of tensioning straps. A bikini top would be easier/quicker to put up for short low speed jaunts. PM me if you have or know of a top available. Cheers Greg |
Greg - what do you have in mind for the tensioning straps? The top bow is pretty shaky by itself. If you are thinking about a couple straps down to a couple of the rearmost lift-a-dot studs that might keep it rigid enough for most in-town driving. Otherwise you will probably need a rigid rod from the windshield back to the bow.
Good luck |
Hi Dan. Not sure yet. I'll start mocking something up tommorrow morning.
I'm thinking tension rods from the windshield to the bows. Also my bow is a nice tight fit in the ferrules and they stick down below the bottom of the ferrule so I'll pin them so they won't pull up/out. Still thinking. Cheers Greg |
My main bow fits fairly snug also but it will move quite a bit at the top without much effort. Probably a couple slender rods from the windshield bow would work well if you can work out some form of attachment to the front windshield bow.
Good luck with the project. |
Good luck, your going to get wet.**)

Hey MrGeorge. I'm all wet most of the time. A little shade is my objective.
Cheers Greg |
Hi Dan. I'm thinking a little tab off the visor mount(s) might work. I'm going to try using some 1/4" dia fiberglass rod I've got as the tension rods.
Another little project to keep the old brain turning. Cheers Greg |
Yeah and maybe it will discourage strangers from trying to climb in the car at red lights - such as I believe you posted in a thread on the FFR Forum. If that was you Greg - never mind.
Edit - I meant if that wasn't you Greg. Fingers are faster than my brain. |
Hi Dan. Yea, that was me. Many alternatives. Not all legal.
