Hood scoop grille options
 
I know it's correct to have the hood scoop opening clear, but I've also seen a variety of grilles, fins, plates and such used.

What are some of you using, and why? Are there any era-correct choices? Do any of the specialty makers sell pieces for this?

Both Pep Boys and JC Whitney offer a variety of good-looking grilles for this purpose. None would be considered "era-correct," however.

Excellent. My hood is glass, so I'd probably have to bond some studs to the inside of the scoop, but fabricating that piece in aluminum or stainless shouldn't be hard.

I'm not 100% sure I want anything there, but I find the look of the air cleaner through the port a little "off" sometimes. (And gosh, I hate passing up the chance for the authentic JCW look!) I might fab a prototype from light aluminum or something similar and see how the look goes.

I use this intake at the track, with open stacks. On the street I use oval air filters.

At speed, the air rushes into the air scoop, across the top of the stacks, and then to the back of the engine bay. The venturi effect creates a vacuum across the top of the first few stacks. Then the air piles up in the back, and force feeds the rear cylinders.

So I made this out of some scraps I had lying around. I bonded the L shaped brackets to the bottom of the hood.

It works. At the top end the engine is much smoother, and reaches a 6,400 redline with ease. Without it, it's almost impossible.
