Sorry AMG and M6
Today wasn't your day. In a 5 mile stretch on my way home neither wanted me to pass by on the highway. Unfortunately they didn't have much of a say in the matter. Downshifting not necessary with the mighty BB cobra. Calm snap of the throttle and it was over in a couple if seconds.
What made it better is the BMW guy's girlfriend took a picture of me as I rolled on by. AMG gave me a big smile and a thumbs up.

That's a rather negative comment. Feeling a little mean?

I was passed by an AMG several years ago and I didn't mind a bit. Hyper-expensive cars are rare where I live. I was cruising along with the traffic, enjoying the warm night air when a car came up quickly in the left lane. It slowed abruptly as it pulled along side me. The driver of the AMG leaned forward to see me around the passenger, flashed a big grin and gave me a thumbs up. The passenger, who was a very lovely young woman leaned out of her window and said, "I lovvvvve your car." I nodded and they took off again going much faster than the other traffic. ... Car guys are car guys regardless the make.

Sorry CBattaglia,
I've lost two friends - while in their Cobras - to similar behavior on the street. I sincerely hope I don't read about you next.

I kind of agree. Every year I find myself driving the Cobra slower and slower... with only the occasional high-spirited moment. I'm at the point now where I enjoy driving the car, say on a beautiful parkway, under the speed limit even more than over. We did that this morning, in fact. Very few cars on the road because of the holiday, and we took a slow, relaxing parkway cruise. Delightful.

When my son (29) and I are out driving in the Cobra on a nice country road, I periodically comment, that even if the car only had 190 horsepower, it would still be a nice great looking fun to drive sports car.

I saw this coming. It wasn't a race , it wasn't high speed, it was merely a snap of acceleration. It was also on an open highway. I drive 40k miles a year for over 14 years no accidents. I'm not an asshole with a hot rod. Both guys appreciated what they saw and everyone was all smiles. I don't race kids with mustangs and WRXs, the opportunities are there every day.
I was just sharing the experience as it is impressive what the cobra can do. Kinda like being proud if your son when he scores a goal.
I'll be fine. I doubt what your friends did was similar to this.

Lol! Look I enjoy the mild cruise waving to strangers that give the thumbs up. I love all of that. But let's all be honest with each other, we didn't get a tiny car with 550hp if we didn't enjoy accelerating.
I think my speedometer moves faster than my tach!

Wasn't some all out street race nothing wrong with winding it out every now and then. What's the point of all the V8 power? 4 cylinders would cruise just fine.

Well, no harm done. We've all "stretched our legs" from time to time before....

Its nuts around here, AMG's and M's are what the gardeners drive :) Everyone still loves the cobra though. I like to give em a quick jab on the go pedal (to deafen them) then let them race ahead like idiots. Any brisk continued acceleration or the like is generally done with no-one around (although there was that one ferrari...)
