GoPro tips

Not sure this is the best forum for this but my wife bought me a GoPro camera and I'm looking for a few tips on how best to use it to capture some car video. I suspect there are a number of members on here with GoPros.

My first try was OK (pretty pedestrian) but it looks like the medium angle setting might work better than the wide angle setting for video (correct-?) Also, I used the non-waterproof back on the camera but wind noise at speed is pretty strong. Any way to cut that down - use the water-proof back maybe?

And finally, the suction cup mount works great on the roadster but I'm looking for an idea on how to mount it to the interior of some of my other hardtop cars (66 Corvette for one) that don't have any smooth, hard surfaces inside to mount to. Not too keen on using the adhesive mounts.

Thanks

Go pro wind noise

Hi
I would recommend an external mic which I run from the gopro into the engine bay or inside the cockpit

Any external mic with a battery for power will do - mine cost $16 and works perfectly . Google go pro external mics for options

I made this video in March at the Harris Hill Raceway in San Marcos, TX. I mounted the GoPro in the nose of the car with a sticky mount. The video of the driver (me) is from a camera suction-mounted to the body of the car just inside the windscreen.

The audio is from the cockpit camera. The audio from the nose mounted camera only picked up fan noise.

How did you overlay the cockpit view on top?

That sounds like what I probably need. Thanks.

I think that pretty much confirms I need a remote mic in order to mount it to the rear deck. Or mount it to the dash.

What setting do you typically record on?

thanks

Always the highest (1080p ) as you can always down scale the quality for YouTube etc but you cant increase the quality if filmed in lower quality .
If you have an iPhone GoPro have a fantastic app that you can remotely control your camera from the phone

Nice video, but does you Cobra only have one gear? ;)

I use the open back on the camera and the suction mount on the windshield. A friend told me the suction cup on the painted dash messed up his paint, so I'm not trying that. If you mount it on the roll, you get a lot of mechanical and wind noise you don't get with the windshield mount. I hope this video of pace laps at COTA comes through.

Funny guy.

This was a warm up lap on my second time on a race track. Ever. The cobra has enough torque to keep it in third the whole way around. As the car (and me) got warned up, I would go to fourth a few times.

Either way, it was fun. And legal.

I used Corel VideoStudio Pro to crop and inlay the cockpit video over the noise video.

These cars are great fun on a track, provided you don't take too many liberties and you did exactly the right thing getting used to the car and the track before trying too hard.
My tongue was firmly in my cheek, so please don't be offended. ;) :MECOOL:
